I know it’s irrelevant here but just making sure I have it correct. The LOS was the 26 on the field goal attempt. After the miss, they placed the ball at the 20. Shouldn’t it have been at the 26. It gets placed at the LOS or 20, whichever is farther I thought.

Missed FG is basically a punt in HS. So if it crossed the goalline, dead ball touchback.

I live in a neighboring district and I only remember them having one bad team in the past 20 years. Our guys were having a very good year if they beat WH. I was there for a game once when they introduced their youth teams. They about filled the field with third through sixth graders.

Not to derail....but that is the way Madrid use to be before their coach died a few years back. The school my kids go to use to play them and it wasn't even a contest. Van Meter is that way now and I think they could compete at any class level and be successful.

I don't think so. They might be able to compete with 2A and maybe 3A, but they would get steamrolled in 4A and 5A.

Do you know where the coach came from that replaced their long time coach?

They rolled Winterset, who was a 4A semi-finalist.

Yes, they would be competitive with a lot of 4A. How much depth do they have? Would it hold up with a 4A schedule? They didn't exactly "roll" Winterset, but they did beat them. 5A? Different story. Could beat the really bad 5As, but against the SE Polk types of 5A? Yikes.

Your still making assumptions (basically talking out your ass) but I do see that Winterset has 66 kids listed on their varsity roster (So.-Sr) Van Meter has 82 that includes 20 FR. VAN Meter also has 10 assistant coaches. Normally I'd agree with you but Van Meter appears to be the exception.

I heard it was his son. Don't know if true but they haven't been the same. All I know is that when he was their they were a football factory much like West Hancock and Van Meter now.

You are correct they could compete very well in any class. And I didn't mean to get this thread off track, just making an observation about how Van Meter supports their football with the best of them like West Hancock.

The other long time Britt coach (who many of the locals credit for their success) Perkins, his son. Talk was he had some health issues though and had to step down.

My kids 2A school which didn't have a good year rolled a really bad 4A 45-0. So I can guarantee Van Meter could compete with most 4 and 5A schools. And against SE Polk most 5A schools are.............yikes. So I think a 1A school could live with that. Once again sorry to derail........but they are that good, just like the West Hancocks of the world.

There is a good difference between A and 1A. At least when you are talking the top ten of each. The top 10 of 1A would beat the top ten of A. At worst finish 9-1 IMO.
