The pace of play was spectacular. I was skeptical of the no kickoff rule but it was almost jarring how quick the game went from a score to the next play. I really enjoyed it.

I'll figure out my favorite team based on two factors...which team has a Cyclone and what uniforms I like the best. I know, I'm forever 7 years old but I don't care.

Wonder if this will be a path some players can take to getting to the NFL, or back to the NFL. Will be hard, I think, to evaluate QB's since the defense can only rush 5 max.

I think it's awesome San Antonio has finally fulfilled their dream of a professional football team there. The Alamodome was built to lure an NFL franchise, but the NFL owners pretty much just used talk of moving there to extort their own cities for new stadium deals with public funding. One plus to the league owning the AAF teams is that the ability to do this is reduced to zero.

The Alamodome is a top notch facility in a great sports town worthy of a team.

Man, I dont know. I went to the Alamobowl, and it's very dated. I think their hospitality was great but the concessions, walkways, and restrooms were all very underwhelming.

A long, long, long time ago San Antonio had a WLAF (precursor to NFL Europe) team known as the San Antonio Riders

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Antonio_Riders

Shortly after that they had a CFL team known as the San Antonio Texans.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Antonio_Texans

San Antonio has had pro football; what they want is NFL, and considering Texas already has the Cowboys and the Texans, it's probably never happening.

And Birmingham appears to be actually really good. F'n Alabama team...

I STILL own that jacket. It's in my hall closet. If my wife got rid of it it would probably be grounds for divorce :)jimlad:)
I think I do to, its just packed away in a box somewhere, I hope, with years of moves I am not sure where. I do have a small worry an ex ended up with it. Grrrr.

"Ladies and gentlemen, your Cedar Falls Sycophants taking on the Fargo Furriers". I can see that totally happening.
Well if they decide to expand or move a team into a northern location, I could see a few venues possibly that are not controlled by the NFL.

But a few northern venues not tied to the NFL that could take on tenants.
Carrier Dome - Syracuse, New York
T Mobile Park - Seattle, Washington, Mariners baseball park, but can be configured for football.
Fargodome - Fargo, North Dakota, A bit small, and a small city, but the city has been wanting to expand the dome for years, NDstate sells out every game, if in a few years one of the teams pledges to come and invest in the dome it could allow them to expand to a decent capacity, for a FBS NDState and an AAF or similar Team.

Olympic Stadium- Montreal, Can
BC Place, Vancouver, Can
Rogers Centre, Toronto, Can. I think this is probably the best chance of getting an American style team.

Of course there is always the chance of a place building a multi use facility in the hopes of drawing a team.
Des Moines would be a great location to pull in a team from one of these new leagues, as well as Omaha, and some of these other Pro football deprived areas.

Agreed. I liked San Antonio, but the Alamodome was slightly nicer than the Metrodome.

Anyone know of any former Cyclones playing in the AAF?

My thoughts on the game:
1. Great to see Lanning start
2. He definitely looks like he bulked up
3. He got 2 solo tackles which is a good start
4. His speed of getting to the ball carrier looks a little slower than his senior year but they only had 30 days of camp so I think this will improve as the weeks go on.
5. I was really impressed with the quality of football. Offenses were a little slow but again only 30 days of practice. I expect the O-lines to improve as we go through the season.
6. I think they will do a great job as a place for players to get a good number of snaps and get pulled back into the NFL. They are smart to not try to directly compete with the NFL but understand the need for a developmental league.
7. Might also be a good place to get coaching experience and then get pulled into an NFL job.

Good list. From the almost 2 complete games I saw, OLines need a lot of work for all the teams.

Where they love the governor
Looks like they're scheduling the games so they don't compete with one another. You could watch every game if you chose to.

Wish I would have been able to watch Birmingham play, but wasn't in the cards for me yesterday.
