I honestly don't think so. Like it or not injury risk is incredibly high for guys who don't make that much money. It's CFB and the NFL. CFB is the minor leagues. You don't make the NFL you're done.

A league could try to raid the college ranks for guys who can't enter the NFL draft yet. Then they'd have some buzz and players that fans might actually go out of their way to watch. The XFL is kind of halfway there by not having any kind of age restriction for players. But I would guess funding would be an issue there as well. If the AAF was struggling to pay their players $75000 per season then a league would need some serious investors who aren't afraid to absorb big losses for the first few years in order to pay big name college players.

Just got back. There are only a few things I'd say were worth getting (i.e. that I'd actually wear/use) and not for the price they want.

I'll wait until they get down around 70% off, that's a little more my speed. Unless it's the team-branded Orca coolers. Those have to be quite a bit lower. They're pretty proud of those things.

Pretty good read. It was every bit as dysfunctional as you might have thought. Ebersol was in way over his head almost from the get-go.

Reading that article makes me think the XFL actually has a decent shot since Vince is putting up 500 million right away. AAF had zero actual money

It's possible, I guess. He definitely appears to have made the right move in going with Oliver Luck as the league commissioner instead of Ebersol. At least Luck has some experience in managing a league operation (albeit one that ultimately folded).

History is against him, though. Professional spring football is maybe just one of those things that will always look good on paper but never in practice.
