Even if she did not leave the scene, I am sure she was in shock and confused about what she should do next. Its easy to say, "call 911, get out and help them", but it just does not work that way for many people, because they are in shock and their mind just kind of goes blank. You are not a rational person during a crisis for a few minutes, unless you have been repeatedly trained for events like this.
Yeah, he clarified that he wasn't advocating for driving away. I think it read a bit that way - "might as well try to get away with it." - but as he clarified that was not his intent so all good.
Having seen the aftermath of hit and run first hand I am admittedly a bit sensitive to the subject.
If someone is thinking clearly enough to follow the logic the poster I was responding to was using, they are thinking clearly enough to realize that leaving the scene of an accident could be a matter of life and death. Sure some very drunk won't be thinking but if you can think "I'm going to jail anyway if I get caught might was well try to get away." you are making a clear decision to put your freedom before another person's life.
I take that exact turn a lot and its easy to see how that can happen. Carrying too much speed around that corner if the light is green or not merging correctly and overcorrecting. Really sad situation for everyone involved.
We also take the turn almost daily and one could see how something like this could occur there, they need to put up some type so guard rail to make sure that this does not happen again.
Updated, thank you for the suggestion. This is incident is really just a tragic accident. If they mods want to lock this thread I'm good with it. If I had known accident wouldn't have posted. Hit and run made me mad and disappointed in people.

I don't know any drunks who are logical when they're drunk. Face it, they've already lost all reason when they get behind the wheel whilst loaded.
Has it been confirmed that the second person died? I hadn't seen any updates to that effect.
My wife said she could make out the red car/SUV that it had ISU plates and could make out the first two letters as TS on them. I'm surprised they haven't releasede names yet. Horrible tragic situation for all involved. I ride my bike on the path along Grand going to Ada Hayden and the Cy-Ride canopy is just to the west of I ride.
The second person is expected to make a full recovery as far as I know. They were life-flighted to Des Moines. The person who passed away was initially assessed to be more stable and was taken to Mary Greely but internal injuries turned out to be significant. It's a really awful situation. The couple was just out for an evening walk and happened to be in the wrong spot when the driver lost control. They are parents and grandparents...really wonderful people that I have fond memories of. I also feel for the driver too who clearly shouldn't have been allowed to drive in the first place. I can't imagine living a full life, having a family, and everything, and then in your 80s you run over a couple and face manslaughter. Just tragic for all parties.
I was prepared for a really tough conversation with my Mom several years ago when we wanted her to get rid of her car and not drive anymore. Surprisingly when I brought it up she was in agreement saying she knew she wasn't as sharp as she used to be and she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she hurt someone due to her degrading faculties.
Not every conversation like that goes so well.
The second victim is a friend of mine. I am not going to give any details as to the accident (which, by the way, came from his actual mouth), but know that he is in stable condition. The families, friends, acquaintances and driver need our prayers (if you are into that) & sympathy. He is one of the best people I know - I, and many others, are gutted by this ordeal!
Also, be careful as to speculations or conclusions you draw on what happened. Let the authorities do their investigations and reporting.
I attend the same church and served on the welcome team with the victims. Two of the most caring people I have ever known. Absolutely heartbroken for the family.
Sorry for all those involved. I know when a news story hits there can be lots of speculation and such, often easy to forget about all those impacted by the tragedy. So sad for all involved.
Agree....SO easy to either try to draw own conclusions or read something and run with it.
Sometimes real bad things just happen and can be hard to explain.
