I figured she’d win. Venus is 39 and won her first major before Gauff was born. Age waits for nobody.

Her nickname seems like something Dolph would come up with.

Venus is a legend but this may be the nail in the coffin for her professional career.

Venus is still a top 50 player at 40. This kid is just really good.

Hopefully we have a new young American star in the making, in women's tennis.

wow, that's insane accomplishment. Anybody know who the other 15-yo was / is?

"...American tennis prodigy Cori Gauff, 15, defeated Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon on Monday, becoming the youngest to win a match at the British tournament since 1991"

When Venus Williams was 15, she was playing professionally too.

Pretty cool exchange at the net.

    Venus: Congratulations.

Cori: Thank you for all that you did. I wouldn't be here without you.

American Women's tennis is in a great place thanks to the popularity brought by the Williams sisters. They just had a 17 year old, Amanda Anisimova, make it to the semifinals of the French Open by beating the #1 player in the world. Madison Keys and Sloan Stephens have a lot of good years left too. The American men, however...... Every current one that is decent is around 30 years or older and on the back end of their careers (which weren't that great to begin with). Hopefully there is a phenom or two that will come up in the next 10 years, because I feel like the sport is losing interest here.

Venus has had a great run but in the end Father Time is undefeated.
