Chaos ensued on the forum last night. Wow, it was really vitriol. Name calling to college kids trying to do their best. Hard to read a lot of the comments last night during the game.

I'm not giving up on this season yet. All it takes for any of the top teams is to stay focused. Stay hungry. Hope they come together at the right time.

Yeah, not sure I like success. It breeds expectations and if those aren't met then social media allows mouth-breathers to lash out at these young men. I just saw Sandford over at Iowa getting death threats. And Jefferson's mom saying that her son received racist DMs. People need to get over themselves.

Yeah I’d rather suck ass forever like we always have. Lmao. Fans ******** on a message board is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Name calling is reprehensible but come on toughen up, if they were doing it irl at Hilton that’s a problem. If they’re doing it here it’s probably the best place to get those stupid thoughts out

This has been talked about before and it's absolutely NOT meaningless. Like it or not, friends and family of players are on here and probably some players from time to time as well. They read this **** and it influences people without a doubt. Now we're not unique at all in that being an issue, but it absolutely does have impact. Then you have the absolute mouth breathers on social media that are even worse.

On this note, I understand how expectations impact fan reaction to losses. Get all of that. But Iowa State has been RANKED IN THE TOP 10 LITERALLY ALL SEASON LONG.

Things aren't that bad.

Maybe I'm just the old guy now.

I mean, they won't be next week with this loss. And besides, you've said (accurately) many times the human rankings are pretty garbage.

Also, a lot of that is built on poll inertia and starting the season hot (though most of those wins have decreased significantly in stature), and benefitting from unbalanced schedules (we played the lowest SOS conference schedule in the big 12)

We certainly haven't looked like a top 10 team in a long time. Per torvik, since feb 1 we are playing like the 30th rated team, with a 72nd ranked offense, and showing so many red flags even in wins that make this team scream 'first weekend exit'.

I think this is where I am at. The team is still in the top 10 because of the pre-season expectations and beating up on what is turning out to be a relatively weak schedule. I know injuries play a part, but going 7-7 over the last 14 is not great even with the injuries we did have. I still think they can have a good March, but I also think the floor is much lower than I thought it was going into conference play. This team has more talent, but isn't as consistent as last years team. I would've been absolutely shocked if last years team lost in the first weekend, where with this years team I wouldn't be surprised at all. I'm hoping for the best, just kind of a let down from where we thought this team would be with what is a bit of a watered down Big 12

Rather be Top 10 after March. Pretty meaningless being ranked high as we skid into the part that matters, and didn't compete in any way for the regular season title.
It is absolutely not meaningless. Lol

instant gratification by some is and always has been insanity to me given where we were four years ago.

Agree. And I'm not mad. Just disappointed. Certainly love TJ and appreciate our players... i didn't follow the meltdown last night.

But with the turnovers and the fact that this team, even at their best, has rarely even played 2 good halves in a row... let alone games.... I think a sweet 16 seems very unlikely.

Hope I'm wrong.

If you wanna watch losers go watch Iowa. Or would you rather let Otz walk and rehire Prohm since he was such a nice guy. I’m sure you wouldn’t of appreciated what Otz said to the guys at half time or after the game after all.

I don't disagree with you or think you're wrong at all. But if we play the same exact games we played against AZ and BYU but that shot in AZ doesn't go in and maybe Jefferson's and 1 last night late goes in and we flip those two to W's the talk on here is flat out not the same as it is right now. It's just not. Still the exact two games but two plays and people are still saying we're a 2 seed lock. Sure there might be talk of putting together full halves and not getting down big etc but the outlook and concern of the team is just vastly different if those two games flip. But we are where we are.

I’m having a hard time figuring out why people don’t understand that expectations change throughout the course of the year. It happened with football this past year too. Just because Iowa State has been a poverty school in the past doesn’t mean we have to just sit there and be happy because that’s no longer the case. This team was ranked 2nd in the country and a conference title/Final 4 contender. This was “supposed to be” the team that finally got past the sweet 16. Instead they’ve let the same issues plague them the entire year and can’t adjust to teams having film on them. It’s beyond frustrating and if the season ends the first weekend of the NCAA tournament it will be a huge disappointment

I wasn't able to watch the game so i didn't realize until the pod that Dishon Jackson was ill. With Chatfield having foul issues and Jackson being sick, we lost our advantage in the frontcourt and thus got killed on the boards.

All the drama on the message board is exhausting. Our team isn’t really that different than any other ranked team not named Auburn. Lots of inconsistent teams this year. There are reasons for our issues. Lots of key players hurt or sick. Now that everyone is back, we need to show improvement at KSU and in KC. Like every year it is going to come down to who gets hot in the NCAA tournament. Everyone is talking about our floor, but I still like our ceiling.

* Wouldn't have...

Guys, it was tongue in cheek. It's because of loyal fans like me that we are where we are. It's comments like yours that makes it no fun to come on a site like this or X after a game. You think that being all huffy and expressing your feels at the heat of the moment will have any positive effect? DMing players and coaches do the opposite. I can text coaches on the football and basketball teams right now, because I have their trust. But will I? **** no, I'm a rational adult.

Yeah we’d be a 2 seed but the WVA, KSU, and Okie State games happened. And we were awful at the Phog (and yeah we all get it, they don’t lose often there, yada yada - but we rarely ever get boatraced there when we have good teams). Had THOSE not happened, you would see different reactions. THOSE are the games that were bummers, because of how the team played, how they responded to adversity, etc. Even flipping BYU and AZ to wins doesn’t change those games or concerns. It was specifically those 3 games that makes the BYU and AZ games hurt so much. It was those games that made last night’s game a match for the double bye in the Big 12 tournament. It’s totally disingenuous to not recognize this.
