I know what you're thinking. "That's NOT Angie posting!"

Well, I was given a special one-time dispensation to post, since I suggested this topic a few days ago and she was not available to post it herself.

And, sigh of relief, it's NOT music related.

What are some foods that you hated as a child that you like now?
Or conversely, what are some foods that you loved as a child that you can't handle now?

Is there something or some event/situation that made you change?

I'll be back to post mine after a bit...

Will not eat a hotdog unless it is at a game. Cannot stand the site of a corn dog. (Do we now call them cow grain dogs?)

Okay, here are mine.

I used to eat a lot of canned pasta. Specifically Spaghetti-O's. Now even the smell of that almost gags me. Truly awful, LOL.

Also, my father used to eat those sardine-like canned things called Kippered Snacks. I remember they were salty but now I wouldn't even consider them.

As a child I would not eat anything with Mayo/Miracle Whip. Especially POTATO salad. My grandmother put some on my plate once and insisted I eat it. I'm pretty sure I went to bed hungry that night!

Now I love a good potato salad. (Most is average but a good one is yum!)

Not sure if I didn't NOT like them but never really ate them, but the last two or three years mushrooms have become semi-regular additions to pan fried veggies, eggs, etc.

Also I put spinach in my eggs.

There was a period from when I was a toddler to when I was probably about 6 where the only thing I ate was hot dogs and fish sticks (the hot dogs of the sea).

Now I will eat neither. I think I had given up hot dogs before everyone started talking about the gross stuff they put in them, but that really drove it home. Even fancy all beef hot dogs, not touching em.

Another thing I have never tolerated, and never will, is ham. Just the smell of it is bad enough but the spongy texture is just awful to me.
My dad once tried tricking me by replacing bacon in a dish with ham. I knew immediately and said no way. This story get brought up often.

I'll eat a lot more vegetables than I did as a kid, and willingly. I was always a picky eater. Now I'll go home for a family meal and eat veggies and undoubtedly someone in my family will say "You're eating that?!?!"
Yes, I'm not 6 years old anymore and I eat a lot of things I wouldn't as a child.

Brussel sprouts (aka mini cabbage). Disgusting growing up. Tried them again at Dublin Bay about 5 years ago and now if they are on a menu anywhere I will get them. Add some bacon and onion to them and they are awesome!!

So much of it is in the preparation. I've come to learn as an adult that my mom was really not a great cook. Some things that were just nasty as a kid are good because someone competent is cooking them.

This is likely a result of declining quality, but I remember as a kid that McDonalds was the pinnacle of fast food. Now the prospect seems pretty terrible.

This. My mother was a terrible cook. It was like a potion with her. No sense of what the ingredients did for the dish. Just a "mix it all together and cook it and hope it turns out."

My short-list(s)

Disliked as a child; like now:
* Corn-on-the-cob
* Chili
* Stuffing (my family circle called it ‘dressing’)
* Tomatoes
* Potato salad (but do NOT put celery or other "crunchies" in it)
* Ham
* Black olives
* Cauliflower, broccoli

Liked as a child; dislike now (or “disinterested”):
* Beets
* Pumpkin pien (I like it, but I'd rather eat more stuffing)
* Fruit-flavored cereal
* Other stuff that isn't coming to mind at the moment

Cinnamon Toast Crunch was my favorite cereal and maybe food growing up. Now I cannot handle it at all, and the milk afterwards almost makes me vomit.

And if my mom is a bad cook, then that makes my grandma a horrendous cook. I'm not sure if I liked anything she cooked... ever.

I remember going to her house several times as a child and being excited because she had cookies in the cookie jar. Lo an behold, they were terrible molasses cookies. I think multiple times they were the same cookies from my previous visit months before, or they just never tasted good.

She could even mess up ice cream. How you ask? By having the same giant bucket of ice cream in the fridge for YEARS. "It's still good." It was so frostburned it would have been more flavorful to just eat ice cubes.

It's called kid food for a reason - frozen chicken nuggets, fish sticks, corn dogs...I won't touch that crap now.

Stuff I like now that I didn't growing up - peanuts, mushrooms, squash, and brussels sprouts. And cauliflower. Laugh if you want but a cauliflower pizza crust is surprisingly tasty.

Actually, my Mom's mom was a GREAT cook. As was one of her sisters. But not the other.
Must be a genetic thing. Didn't get handed down to all the girls, only one.
