It's a great article, and the comments from what are surely EIU fans claiming to ISU fans is priceless. They always have to downgrade anything ISU has accomplished, and throw out the "little brother" phrase.

The Athletic costs me $5 a month, I figure money well spent to keep reading articles like this or sports in general.

Overall a good piece on Iowa State athletics. Only mentioned us being the bottom of the barrel five or six times. Who would have thought we were national champions in several different sports during those dark times?

This is a good article and great press for Iowa State. Anyone who has a problem with it, aside from a minor reminder of how bad we used to be, needs to just get over it and enjoy where we are now. It won’t last forever, just enjoy it!

This portion of the article just hit me last night: "From the formation of league play through the early 1980s, Iowa was the only state with two schools competing in different major conferences."

Except that this isn't true: Florida/FSU, SC/Clemson, UGA/GaTech, Penn/PennSt, now OU/OSU, CU/Colorado St and I'm sure there are others.

Through the early 80s is right.

Florida State was an independent until 1991.
South Carolina was in the ACC until 1991.
Georgia Tech was an independent until 1983 in football (joined the ACC for all other sports in 1979)
Pitt was an independent until 1991. Penn State was an independent until 1994.

I was going to post similar. One correction (I think my years are correct): South Carolina was independent 1972-1991, had been in ACC thru 1971

Had wondered if perhaps TX misread as "beginning in early '80s."

This still just kills me: "In what once was a sprawling parking lot between Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum, a new $225 million public-private development called CyTown is scheduled to open in 2027." I sincerely wish we would have named it Tornado Alley or the Storm Center or something clever...

And if you believe that CyTown is the best we could come up with, or that it's an awesome name, I'd love to hear "why" you think so.
Tornado Alley is too close to Cyclone Alley (which would have been perfect if not taken). As someone mentioned, if it goes as planned, there will inevitably be a sponsor attached to the name down the line which I'm all on board with for the money.

Between the forum and some W&B podcasts there’s been a healthy debate about who belongs on ISU’s ‘Mount Rushmore.’

As time continues to go by, and reading things like this, we’re at the point where I’m not sure how you can leave Pollard off the ‘mountain.’
Orr,Campbell, Oz, Pollard if you have a 5th Fennelly

I’d have to relisten, but from what I recall they had:

Dan
Johnny
Fred
4th was up for debate.

Pollard is easily #4 by this point. No particular order on the mountain.

I truly just picked my own. I wouldn't have Fred on the list. Coach Mac really bring FB to life and truly seems to enjoy coming back. Which is amazing after all these yrs. I can see the argument.

positive article on ISU in a national publication.

CF complains.

Sky is blue.

Oh and Cytown is going to be awesome, no matter what's it's called!

It honestly seems like some posters are so emotionally invested in carrying around the permanent chip on their shoulders that they just can't let a good thing for Iowa State be a good thing.
