Not exactly sure.
Brands is far from those things but it hasn’t hurt them in getting high end talent, that’s for sure.
Think in the past smith was not really a different style at Okie state compared to Cael so the Iowa mystique could pull. Not that he was similar to Carl, he just didnt seem to light a fire. Great wrestler, accomplished coach but if you wanted an alternative to Cael, it was Iowa. But now with Taylor at OSU it gives an alternative to those that Cael doesn’t connect with.

Throw in probably better money and I think Okie state will overtake Iowa for second in the next year or two.

This is the problem I read about. The rich teams can stash an incoming freshman on their RTC and pay him 50-100k to go to school and train. If they notice he’s a stud then they’ll push out someone on the 30 man the next year who was worse. That’s why I said the only way this roster limitation works is if the RTC is for post grads and Olympic redshirts. Then PSU only has 30 like everyone else
A grayshirt can't be enrolled as a full-time student is the rule I believe. So it can only work for first year kids who either go to a Jr college near by or are enrolled in the university part-time until the following year. This will absolutely be used, but most elite guys don't want to delay enrollment and are ready to go right away.

At the end of the day, guys want to compete. I don't know how successful paying guys to stash for a year (or more) will work out. The rich can pay, but if those guys are good enough, they'll want go where they can start. PSU will still have hammers, but the roster limit will help with the hoarding of talent. Idk, I think it'll work itself out.

They can take up to 11 credits. So if they were set on that school then they could grey shirt and if they took summer school, basically have a year done and consider that their redshirt kinda like Paniro. Work at the RTC and get a stipend that pays for school. So schools would have to say it’s due to roster issues and see if they can have them tread water for a year.

Okie states money helped quite a bit but I think the Taylor vs Brands situation is a bigger deal in the long run. Taylor is kinda fresh and exciting to college kids. Brands is far from those things.

Dresser comes across as the old sage guy, kind of that older, cooler dude that you like to hang around.
DT has recruiting appeal that "dwarfs" Brands. ..

The transfer portal stuff is getting a bit crazy. It's literally PSU, OSU and Iowa, if they don't change rules that will be the foreseeable future, another team may get in the top 3 every so often, but this is setting up to be the same old same old year in and year out.

That’s not a portal thing. Those schools have won 44 of the past 50 NCAA team championships. LOL

Let me be very clear: I’m super happy KD is our coach and he’s a nice man but in no way do I think of him like this. Haha

Brands has a weird thing going. He comes off as this super odd psycho guy but you hear nothing but raves from the guys who wrestle for him. Look no further than Buchanan’s deep praise and admiration. But then, once you fly the coop you have a 50/50 chance of being almost totally ostracized. My take is he’s a good person who takes great care of his own but has low emotional intelligence when it comes to certain things.

He’s one weird ass dude for sure.

yes the top will be the last 20 years but the bottom will drop out and programs will be cut. You cant truly believe this talent movement is like the last 20 years

This is an issue across all non-revenue Olympic sports, not just a wrestling thing. So this in and of itself isn’t going to lead to much.

Mandated revenue sharing is going to be the death of non-revenue sports. Not NIL.

The wrestlers I have spoken to, and their families, say they like Terry but can’t stand Tom.

Would have guessed it to be completely opposite
Terry actually is decent around wrestlers. I couldn’t make freestyle state one of my sons JH years and terry saw that and went over and coached him at break and second period. Although my kid was up 8 at break and ended up losing so I don’t know if his coaching was great, lol.

Guessing with Tom considered HC, the final decisions hit him and terry can sluff that off. Biggest issue I heard with Tom the most was you couldn’t trust what he said and they thought they were lied to by him.

I’m just hoping within the next couple of weeks we start landing some of these portal guys. I thought we would’ve had 1 at least now.
ISU isn’t really in the position to “recruit over” talented kids like PSU and OSU do. None of the portal guys have been at the need weights we are really looking at besides the possibility of Faucando. 174-197 are the weights we could use a top end transfer. If they aren’t instant All-American contenders or high talent guys with multiple years I’d rather us save the NIL money. Our past portal kids we’ve got have scored very little if any points for us at NCAAs.

And I’m not counting Welsh or Ryder as it’s pretty obvious they already knew/know where they are going.
