I would hope he moves better being 40lbs lighter. I just don’t see Mulder at the 5 in the Big 12.

Looks like a classic TJ kid with a great motor though.

Mulder is 6'8" & 225lb per Ft Wayne's website. So yes he is on the smaller end of post players. But in the highlight video I watched he looks to have a great motor with decent quickness & explosion for a post player.

But what is a Big 12 post player? In watching the better Big 12 teams this year I feel coaches like a 2 headed monster. An uber athlete shot blocker and bruising rebounder. Here are the top Big12 teams post players:

Houston: Francis 6'8" 235lbs / Tugler 6'8" 230lbs / Roberts 6'8" 235lbs
TT: Toppen 6''9" 225lbs / Federiko 6'11" 215lbs
Arizona: Veesaar 7'0" 235lbs / Awaka 6'8" 250lbs
BYU: Keita 6'8" / Traore 6'8"
KU: Dickinson 7'2" / Bidunga 6'9" 220lbs

So it doesn't seem like Mulder's size would be a liability. But it probably makes sense that our other post be taller and more of a shot blocker type like Ward & Osunniyi.

We need one of our 5s to have some foot speed on defense and be able to dunk and get put backs. My only concern with Mulder is FTs. Anything on top of that is gravy. This seems like the perfect guy to plug into a small ball rotation without sacrificing too much rebounding

Chatfield replacement
At 6'8", I don't see him as a Chatfield replacement.
Given that like half of these plays are putbacks, I'm guessing Otz is still looking for a guard (or two) who attacks... We all complained about Chatfield and Jackson taking too long to go back up after offensive rebounds, so hopefully Mulder can remedy that. not sure when he'll play though, Jefferson still at the 4 and sign a starting C? So Mulder and Pleta would then be vying to be backup 4, with the other getting even fewer minutes. Not to reopen wounds but it seems like that's what the staff wanted Watson to become. I'm fine with frontcourt depth again, though
I hope this doesn't mean Cluff is no longer a target.

"Mulder has one remaining season of eligibility."

So which one is correct- does he have one or two years of eligibility left?
I would say 1 year of eligibility left 1743096423830.png

This is an honest question. Are we done going after trasnfers from Kansas, Minnesota, Penn State, UNLV, and St. Bonaventure now? It just seems like we've been going progressively lower each year for players.
I think we went lower because NIL had to be paid to keep our current guys. If we get the Oscar guy and one other player to replace Jones/Keshon I would be feeling better. I know we need role players but 8PPG at the school he is at kind of makes me nervous about our abilities in the portal and who we can actually get.

Glad my collective money is getting put to good use. 8 points a game at Fort Wayne. Yikes!!!

Cluff is still the staff's target for the starting Center roll and what the collective donation is being used to recruit.

Mulder can be the Chatfield replacement as in taking his minutes as a backup post and will get a NIL representative of that. He'll be a good backup option to play 4or5 when Jefferson/Hopefully Cluff need a rest and insurance as Pietra develops.

This is a good post. Anyone worried right now about him replacing Chatfield needs to give a wait and see approach. At 6'8" in college you can still play some center especially if you get off the floor quickly. That spring makes up for a taller slow jumper. Dishon was every bit of 6'11" and got beat by smaller quick jumpers A LOT.

the problem is, white guys from Iowa can't dunk.

(Now that I've written this, I'll go check out his highlights video). ;)

Way up there
Chatfield was able to use his size to protect the paint but not help trap on the perimeter like TJ has in past teams with Jones, Ward types. Mulder seems to have the foot speed and length to add that back into the base line defense. Do that, rebound and finish at the rim as a back up to Jefferson and some limited C minutes he'll be a good addition.
Yeah he seems perfect for the role we need.

45% career free throws is a bit concerning but I assume TJ does not see him in a more than a very limited part of the scoring offense.

Reading this thread is like replaying the Rob Jones signing, and I was one of the ones that didn't like his numbers at the time. I have realized since that I was wrong on that score and trust TJ's judgment, even if he was an 8 point guy at Fort Wayne.

Just read the CF article and hadn't realized that he has two years left. Makes him an even better pickup for sure.

Has to be one year remaining.

Outside of Dickinson all those guys are freak athletes and most have big wingspans.

Personally that’s what I want for a 5.

Not trying to be a smartass but is this the worst commitment from a transfer we have ever gotten? Merrill Holden maybe? Jazz Kunc did not have the numbers but at least he was in a power conference.
Rob Jones.
