I ran across a scouting report for this kid that basically said he’s a really good athlete but he can’t shoot. So I don’t think he’s gonna come in and save the program.

This is just what we need. Now Fran can continue his journey of suckitude this year while fan base dreams of a savior. Kid will come in next year, be in over his head, and transfer out. But this may get 2 more years of Fran.
Fran is one of humblest dudes ever. His cameo trying to perk up his buddy Brian was very touching.
Not only "not attend" the U of I...a lot of their fans have never set foot in Iowa City...well, other than to drink. There, am I doing this correctly?
They had Gilmore at 7'-2" (right) and Pembrook Burrows III 7'-0" (center) for more size than a NBA team today. Burrows scored the winning hoop over the Hawks 6' Chad Calabria. Games etched in my memory, hard to forget a a cool name like Pembrock Burrows III.
BTW, I was in my freshman at ISU during that season. Was a glorious hoops year. Got introduced to Cyclone hoops and Bill Cain games in the Old Armory. We won almost every home game and lost every road game but I didn't see any of those road loses. This was all on the heels of Drake being in the Final Four in 1969 so there was a lot of Iowa hoops to love. And on the girls side legendary Denise Long in the 1969 high school tournament.
Fran just received a really good commitment so hopefully this means he’s staying
Way out of his recruiting radius. Are we sure Fran was involved?
I'm more excited anymore above a transfer who has experience and willing to work in TJs system than a recruit.
You shut your goddamn mouth, this kid is the next Jordan. Micheal was 6’6 and wasn’t a great shooter right away.
Now the sporting thing to do is have Brian do one for Fran.
I could be dead wrong but I don’t really see what Iowa does as having much of an impact on us.
We rarely compete for the same recruits and recent in-state kids seem ti have their minds made up long before it’s time to commit.
Bilew and Foster maybe an exception, but Tamin, the Sandforts, etc were going to be Hawkeyes or cyclones regardless of the coach.
These recent quad city kids for Iowa were obviously not deciding where to go based on strength of program. Or we didn’t recruit them because they weren’t good enough.
I don’t really see this dynamic changing under DeVries or Fran or anyone else.
They are obviously rivals in general but I don’t think so in terms of recruiting nor in terms of financial support. Not like people are deciding whether to give to We Will or to Swarm.
I guess maybe there is something long term if we have great success over a long period and they’re terrible for long period (like opposite of football in the 80s).

For the state of Iowa, almost every single prospect that is either an Iowa fan or an Iowa State fan is going to go to their favorite school unless there's a better option elsewhere (DJ Carton going to Ohio State). There would not be though, a kid who grew up an Iowa State fan who would go to Iowa if Iowa State offered. We did see the flip side of that happen with Xavier Foster, who came here on a visit with Hawkeye car mats. Lol but regardless, as of right now, Iowa State is the premier school in the state for basketball and it's not close. Fran has chosen to recruit the state of Iowa "more" than Iowa State, however that has meant filling his rosters up with guys who weren't getting many other, if any, P6 offers. He's actually done UNI dirty in stealing away quite a few players that would've done well there.
Fran has not really recruited a ton in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota though, which has helped Iowa State. If Iowa were to find a right fit at coach and is successful, some, but not all, recruits would be getting interest from both schools. Right now there are guys we have on our roster and guys that have committed that might've had Iowa more on their radar had a different coach been at the helm.
With all that being said I'm not too worried given the fact we do have one of the best recruiters in the midwest in TJ and he's also a very good transfer recruiter. I don't think Iowa being better at basketball would necessarily hurt Iowa State much but them being an afterthought in comparison to us is nice to have. You really don't have to worry about them at all right now.
Very good points. To that effect, I guess a strong Iowa program might cut into good Wisconsin and Minnesota talent that wants to go out of state but might prefer Big 10.
