I think it’ll be pretty telling if we recruit another big to replace Chatfield next offseason or they’re confident in Rock filling that role
I don't necessarily think that would tell us much about Rock's longer term potential in their eyes, just that they think Rock isn't ready yet. We are well experienced now with a dose of Milan when he is not injured. We have some talent on the bench and more young talent joining the next couple of years. Thus, depending on who all comes back next year, it will be interesting to see how much more experience and mature physical bodies TJ and team feel they need to add.

I could see adding a transfer/juco big AND the German. The physical older defender role that Jones and Chatfield filled should be fairly inexpensive.

Then hopefully a transfer scoring guard

I really don’t expect too much from any of the freshman
The balance today's coaches have to make is how to put a physically mature and experienced team on the floor, recruit young talent, but put them in the mix enough and sell them on the vision of their role going forward that they don't transfer for playing time.

I’m still optimistic. An 18 year old 7-footer is unlikely to be at the level Jefferson, Jackson, and Chatfield are playing at this year.

But if he’s able to be a good Big 12 starter as an upperclassman in two seasons, I think he’d need to play next year. Not a great sign if he doesn’t work his way in to the rotation next year.

In hindsight, starting his clock a year early may not have been as beneficial imo.
I disagree. His development has been aided by battling Big Rob Energy, Ward, King, Jackson, Jefferson and Chatfield in practice vs. short high school kids. If he sees his development and buys into the vision for him at ISU and doesn't transfer for more playing time, getting two or more solid years from him developing in the program and understanding the work ethic, system and defensive principles, may well put him at an advantage to potential transfers.

Mostly agree, but if he can be recruited over in the 3rd big role as a RS sophomore, and thus likely not play much, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll be ready to start as a junior when we lose Jackson and Jefferson.

I’m hoping he forces his way on to the court next season

We will find out pretty much right after the season if he has a future. Guessing if he does TJ will keep him around. If not TJ will inform him he needs to transfer.

You mean Rob, Ward, and King.

Why did you list Jackson, Jefferson, and Chatfield? He has the same amount of time against those three regardless.

He’s not playing at all. He’s likely not going to play much next year. Having another year of eligibility is worth more to a big like him than better practices as a 17 year old

It’s rare that starting the clock early on a 7 footer that’s a long way off physically from being a Big 12 starter is optimal. Better to go prep school (or now juco) and delay the clock

How do we know he is tough though? Just curious

Because TJ is recruiting him?

If he played PF in Chicago City league, and is now playing guard (he was listed in the tweet as a guard), he could be positionally tough

Maybe not

Why wouldn’t we keep him around? We can’t afford 13 rotation guys. We kept Fish

Imo we have room for seeing what Rock becomes as upperclassman

Debut Ranking: No. 99 overall

College Choice: Iowa State Cyclones

Analysis
: Killyan Toure has had a productive for New Hampshire's Brewster Academy. Also, the 6-foot-3 athletic guard, who is originally from France, found a perfect match with Iowa State. He's an eager defender who is more than capable of making plays on both ends of the floor.

Nice. I just said yesterday I believe that recruits now go up in the rankings when they commit to us

Toure is suddenly our second highest rated recruit according to 247. Batemon is highest rated and Mitchell is outside the top 100.

Interestingly, Rivals has Mitchell as our highest rated, but Batemon is still a top 100 4-star.

Rivals hasn’t updated their rankings since September (before Toure committed), so gotta think he’s due for a bump on there as soon as they update it.

Side note: Don’t sleep on Macari Moore. He’s a baller.
