Initial thoughts on WVU and the matchup -

it's worrisome due to the DeVries connections to central Iowa and that Morgantown is always a tough place to play.

Coach DeVries has pieced together a pretty good team - but due to injuries, they are showing some cracks. They are sitting at #41 in kenpom - just ahead of Creighton/BYU/Nebraska and just behind Cincy and Memphis.

They are a much better defensive team than offensive. Offensively they really can struggle - they don't get to the FT line well and they don't offensive rebound well. They've taken almost as many 3s as 2s on the season, but Tucker DeVries was the only one shooting well, and he's still out.

I have no idea how they won in Lawrence - KU just couldn't make anything, except Zeke Mayo, who put them on his shoulders and tied the game with 16 seconds left - then Bidunga bit on a pump fake and fouled Javon Small with 1 second left.

Their main players, especially Small, have played a ton of minutes lately - and they are on a brutal Zona, @ Colorado (they won), @ Houston, ISU stretch here - and both Zona and Houston have blown them out. It's frankly not fair for any team to have to play Houston and us back-to-back.

I think this game goes somewhat like the TTU game - Small gets hot early and scores a bit, they get a lead for a while, but then we wear down their guards and comeback to win, by 5 or so. Another lower scoring game, WVU plays quite slow - ISU wins 72-67

They remind me of our first couple teams under TJ. Grinding and probably competitive enough to reach the second weekend with the right matchups.

But shouldn’t be beating this iteration of the Clones.
