I’m just not sure why the SEC would push to get 4 auto bids. There’s no reason to think they’d ever get less than 4 in the current environment. The Big10 is a different story. In fact, the Big10 getting 4 auto bids probably hurts the SEC in that they are more limited in the number of teams they can get.

That's why we're hearing this from B1G sources.... I suspect the SEC would be against it because a lot of years (like this one) the SEC is likely to steal one of the B1G's slots.

It makes me wonder if they are trying to get more than 4 somehow and eventually push all others out so it will be even more of an SEC and Big 10 show with minimal other spots.

Oh no, she said something that hurt your feelings 4 years ago. That doesn’t make her reporting less credible which is what that user was questioning.

I swear I don’t know how some in our fanbase gets through the day without feeling slighted by something. It must be miserable.

She’s the Big10 version of Paul Finebaum. That doesn’t mean she’s not a good reporter. You just have to recognize the bias and that’s she’s being fed information the Big10 wants out there.

It’s to ensure 4. The SEC has down years too. Many years there is a steep drop off from the top 2 teams. Texas being good is an added wrinkle and if that’s sustained then I agree with you but if it’s not then 4 is a good bet. Especially if they get moved to a 9 game schedule like is being floated for the big ten scheduling thing

If Dinnich "reports" something, the only thing you can take away is the ESPN wants whatever she reports out there. She's not going to get a scoop or break a story unless it's to the benefit of ESPN.

Bias? She gets paid by the Big 10’s direct competition.

Also what bias can be made about simply explaining the details that will be discussed at this week’s meetings.

Big12 and ACC should try to negotiate for a 14 team playoff with 7 total spots allocated for Big10 and SEC combined. With 4 reserved for ACC and Big12. And 3 at-large bids with 1 guaranteed to top G5 school. that's half the teams in a 14 team playoff guaranteed to the top 2 conferences.

In an odd year with 5 really good teams in Big12 and ACC teams (or a down year for Big10 and/or SEC) then the Big12/ACC could still nab a 5th team from the at-large spots but this would be longshot. And most of the time SEC/Big10 will get 4 teams from each conference (or possibly 3 from one and 5 from the other in up/down years for each conference) - so beneficial to them as well. That seems to balance the most likely outcomes and the second most likely scenarios too and mostly protect the brands that want protecting. And has just enough flexibility that TV networks could go along with it to manipulate what they want.

It is. But it’s literally the only leverage the B12 has. If we just have one seat while B10/SEC has 8, we’re in for a world of hurt next tv contract anyway
It’s difficult to imagine they passed on 2 spots. There must have been some really bad conditions on that

We’re in for a world of hurt regardless. And it only gets worse from here. The only question is whether the Big 12 and ACC are cannibalizing each other for scraps, or if one of the two mid conferences becomes another zombie like the PAC

There are not enough premium linear time slots for anything close to 3 equitable conferences. That doesn’t get better the more people cord cut, and other demographic changes

Look at recent ratings- networks benefit from the P2. They don’t want other conferences pulling viewers away from the premium P2 offerings during the premium TV. Concentrating the biggest brands from across the nation into two conferences into the best TV windows is best for networks, filling the less desirable slots with Big 12, ACC etc

This is true. But it doesn’t need to be equitable. We just need to get enough revenue to maintain competitiveness.

Or we call it a day and form a playoff with everyone not in the P2 (or eventual Super League). Which is probably an inevitability anyway

I could get behind this proposal. Essentially you’d be competing with like funded schools for those spots. If one conference is down, you aren’t forced to put in a set number of schools if they’re not deserving.

But I’d still require the conference champion to be one of those 7 or 4 spots. You don’t want all 7 or all 4 going to one conference and shutting another out.
