Oversigning. It happens all the time in football. The SEC schools make an art of it.
But they cut existing players, gray shirting etc. if they need to. That is perfectly allowable. Not pulling a LOI unvoluntarily because a better recruit came along.

Rumor has it that the breaking point came when Fred beat Armardi in a game of one on one. Which in and of itself is not shocking. However, he did it using his left hand only while being strapped to a wheel chair wearing a blindfold.
If this were true, we wouldn't have any players left :)

Im more excited to have Kane then Amardi. I don't know any inside info but I'm guessing something happened on Amardi's end that resulted in being released from his LOI.

Kane will contribute and will make Iowa State an NCAA tournament team yet again. Three years in a row would be phenomenal and another top 4 finish in conference would be great too. Heck, if we win another first round game that'd be great but I think we could be a sweet 16 team just because of our depth, of course we typically haven't been able to gauge a Hoiberg team until conference play.

Safe to say I'm more excited about basketball then football. Ejim and Niang will be one of the best duos in the big 12!

What do you think Grey Shirting is?

And they very much do pull guy's offers. There are stories on ESPN almost every year about kids showing up to campus, moving in, and then being told that there won't be a spot for them on the roster due to oversigning.

Somewhere in the U.S.
Since it is quiet now, and the team roster is hopefully set for next year, I thought it might be fun to bump this thread to remember where ISU MBB was about 1 year ago today.

Not if we lose someone else it isn't. Kane is about the equivalent of Bubu or Naz Long IMO. So if we lost one of those two it would be about a wash bringing him in. I know people will say I'm crazy to think that Bubu or Naz are as good as Kane, but they very well could be. What would Bubu or Naz do in the MAC Conference. Probably tear it up pretty good.

And other scholarship players on our team, if they were to not be here, would be a net loss IMO with the addition of Kane. And no, I'm not saying Kane isn't a good player that I'm glad we got, I'm just comparing him to others on scholarship.

Losing a Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, or SDW would be a MUCH bigger net loss IMO, just to the fact that these 3 have 4 years of eligibility remaining and look to have very bright futures. Niang and Ejim aren't even in the debate whatsoever. Losing either of those two would be catastrophic.

And according to Fred himself, all 4 JUCO's are going to be here. So we know it's none of them.

All I'm saying is that the addition of Kane is awesome, as long as we aren't losing anyone else. If we are losing someone else, I could possibly be a net loss, or at best a wash IMO.

Bump

KU, OK St, Baylor, ISU for sure and let WVU, Texas, K State and Oklahoma battle out for #5...one of those teams will be better than we think. We had the fifth best recruiting class in the conference this year. Say what you want but IMO I don't think the Big 12 will be down next year.

Tooting my own horn, never expected Texas to be good though

Clonedude insisting Kane was a Naz Long/Bubu type player (before Naz Long was the sharpshooter we now know) is hilarious.
