The only thing about Stillwater. Only thing......I forgot what it's like to be in bars that still allow smoking. VERY similar vibe to Ames, very similar fans too.
Unsure if Norman allows it, if they do, it wasn't as strong of a presence for me to remember.

They broke those back out in the 80's as well. Hated the dark purple with light purple.
I went to games at Hilton in the late 70's and if you got there 30-45 minutes early you could sit directly behind the opposing team's bench. We did it all the time. And yes, we did all we could to get under their skin, but also no profanity. The Lynn Nance years.
I believe I have shared this story before on this board, but in the late-80's there was a year the student tickets were a rotation between 4 seats that ranged from really good to nose bleed. Our really good tickets were 4 rows behind the opposing coach. We had those seats one game against Missouri when Norm was still coaching. That dude was BIG and had a menacing brow when trying to intimidate officials. At one point he was yelling at a ref of Latino decent, and when the guy turned away, Norm yelled, "Hey, Taco Bell, I'm not done with you yet!" We yelled, "Hey Norm, nor racial statements! This is Iowa, the education state!) FYI - Some of Anthony Peeler's family were a couple of rows in front of us. Norm, stopped, turned and looked right at us...and winked!...then turned right around and yelled again at the ref. He always LOOKED out of control, but that night we learned he was very much in control!
They also had Mitch Richmond in the 80's who was first string all Big 8 the same year with Jeff Grayer and Danny Manning.

I loved that arrangement and that's when Hilton was really amazing. I always felt the students being intermingled with the general public helped get the whole place up and loud.
Wow, that is impressive that you still have that! That was a fun team to watch. I didn't, however, enjoy our nosebleed seats, but there really isn't a terrible seat in Hilton...it was ALWAYS loud and fun.

Although I am MUCH more sympathetic and gracious to OSU fans than I am KSU fans. Mostly due to KSU online behavior. OSU is probably my #2 Big 12 team although TCU is up there too. Inadequate data on the new 4 so they are not included.
Late 90s still had the same rotations for student seating. Loved it. Had Texas Barnes coach and a suspended player (don't remember which) talking back and forth - Barnes told us "we'll get you next time". Couldn't believe we got in their heads. The first two rows were old folks (big donors) and then we were in the third row. The old folks (donors) had some chuckles with us.
$33 in 1988!? That's like 7 million dollars today.
And it was worth EVERY penny! Of course, I worked for athletic dept and had press passes for 3 seasons then, so can't complain.
