I saw some yesterday leaving Ames at about 5:30pm heading west towards Boone. They are pretty sweet machines those Blackhawks. I think they cost a couple million a pop.

My dog was completely baffled at the sound. We were playing frisbee and he looked up and said, "That doesn't sound like geese.".

Speaking of helicopters...I was reading something about the Marine One presidential helicopter. They are in talks with Lockheed to replenish the entire fleet (28 total) for approximately $400M per chopper. Unbelieveable if they do this in this day and age. They gave Citi grief about a private jet order they made 3 years ago and never took possession this year.

Kind of on/off topic but has anyone ever taken a helicopter lesson from John Mac over in Ankeny? I have been thinking of doing either this or flying lessons for a while...

Not trying to get this sent to the cave, but at least buying a new fleet of helicopters from an American firm IS stimulative activity (as opposed to any of the other expenditures which you can read about in the cave :jimlad:)

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah... except Lockheed is working with Augusta-Westland, an Italian/British firm. The design is based off of an Italian commercial helicopter that is being modified, and it beat out the Sikorsky proposed helicopter (Sikorsky is an American helicopter builder and I believe some of the current designs are based on theirs)

On a side note... I'm rather entertained by the video they showed of the test flights...

My father was a VP at Sikorsky. In the 70's I was at the Bridgeport Ct. hangers with him. He was able to bring me into the hanger with some of the Marine One helicopters but that was as close as I was allowed to them. They were all kept in a separate area with armed guards. I'm sure today the security is much more strict.
That was the same day that I went on the final test run of Jean-Claude Duvalier's (president of Haiti) new helicopter. A Sikorsky S76. Pretty sweet ride out over Long Island sound.
