So I failed on all wagers placed on tonight's game. CyBookie has been a very effective tool to show me why I do not gamble with "real" money.
I'm curious as to what people's strategies are when the place a wager. I know there are many who like to throw it all on the line on a regular basis. These people generally don't have very many credits.
There are many (myself included) who place many small wagers on a lot of different things, and usually end up breaking about even.
And then there are those who have obscene amounts of credits. I understand that there must be some luck involved in hoarding so much, but there must be some strategy/skill involved as well.
So I'm curious, how do people win the big Credits on here?

Luck, all luck. But I mean 2 really make any money consistently and long term betting on sports you really have 2 know trends and know teams Better than they know themselves, you have 2 dedicate your life and time 2 studying all measurable statistics that could affect certain outcomes and I could be wrong but I highly doubt anyone on here does do that. But like I said could be wrong. Cybookie and said credits are serious business. - 1800-Bets Off

Wondering the same thing :notworthy::yes: Just stat betting on the team you want to lose...I would be negative right now if it wasn't for the free 1,000,000 credit we have got this past week...

It used to be that you could just look at who everyone else on here was betting on, and picking the opposite, but it seems that lately that hasn't been the case as much.

I usually stay away from obscene lines like the ISU-KU game tonight, but for some reason I took KU to cover. I did however put 1/2 a mil on OSU to beat Tech, who was only a 1.5 point dog. That seemed like easy money, and right now OSU leads by 15 just before half.

I've considered wagering large sums on the money lines of heavily favored teams. Seems to make some sense. But I just know that I would get really pissed when the big upset happens, and typically I like rooting for the underdog!

It seems I usually get burned going big on the "no brainers"
Thats why they say, "slow and steady keeps you about where you started."
I don't know anyone that says that, I just made it up.

I don't bet on anything but football on an everyday basis and this is what I do with real money also. I figure football is the only sport I follow religiously and have an idea on what and who to wager on. I don't follow basketball, baseball or hockey that much so I won't really bet on those sports.

So, with me having to wait for quite some time, I might bet on some UFC, March Madness, World Series and the Stanley Cup but not on the everyday games that occur.

I also lucked out and bet on Kenseth in the Daytona 500 which was high odds!

You can't really develop a gambling stategy or gamble to win unless there is real money on the line. Gotta have an incentive not to lose.

IMO, Gambling on sports should be kept in the "for fun" category, unless your just a degenerate gambler or you really, really know the game you are betting on. Too much chance involved. If you really know a team, you can do well betting on them... I did great betting against ISU FB in 03-04 and really well betting on them the next year when we turned it around and won the Independence Bowl.

If you want to really gamble effectively for money you need to learn a skill game like poker and get good at it, to the point you can beat always beat the random variance involved in the game over time.

What I've found works best for my mental health is to ALWAYS bet against the Cyclones. If they lose, I win the bet. If they win. I'm more than happy to lose the bet. It's like buying victories.

This way I win either way.

I agree with this - my father always told me to hedge my bets!

You have to know trends and trust them. If a line looks crazy then don't believe you know more than professionals. If a line moves a bunch then either follow the money or don't bet. Prop bets are for suckers and should only be bet with imaginary money. Parlays are for suckers too. Always, and I mean always, know the line makers know more than you. Sometimes you have to zig when everyone else zags. Develop a unit system.

Personally, I never bet a team I hate or love. (No Clone or Hawkeye bets ever). I also have a little program I built for college football. Not quite a logarithm but not bad. It takes more work than its worth but I usually run it before I go to Vegas. The four times I have used it has averaged out to about a 75% success rate. The first time I used it I went 13 for 14. With that said, I am not about to give up my day job.

If you are really interested, read the book "The Smart Money" by Michael Konik. There is even reference to an ISU game in it. Great read for degenerate and recreational gamblers.

Its all about match ups with me. Not all games are worth wagering money to me (risk / reward). In basketball I like to take the team that is more physical and/or more atheletic. Use Duke this year for an example, anytime they face a team with better athletes - bet against them. Duke is probably one of the best coached teams this year, which explains why they are in the top 10. However when they play a team that is good and atheletic, they struggle (UNC, Miami, Wake, Pitt last year).

I also bet typically on college sports, NBA, NFL, and NFL are tougher in my mind. College sports there is a lot more momentum that the kids ride into a game and coaches are more involved in the game outcomes. Some teams never seem to get blown out (Iowa football), so when a spread is big against them, you typically want to take them. Then you have ISU football, who has a tendency to give up a few points the past year or two - if there is a close spread bet on teh opponent.

Hopefully this has to help as I need to get back to work. yeah, I do have 17MM credits - so I am right a lot.

Never bet big, slow and steady. I think my max bets are still 100k or maybe 1M on moneylines.
