And what exactly were you expecting with many underclassmen (with many freshmen) at the skilled positions?????The main point is the offense is garbage.

Not in every category like you claim. Here are the main offensive stats through 2 games for this year vs last year. Keep in mind, this year’s squad is much, much younger at the skilled positions than the 2022 year as well. As you can see, they actually have more points this year than last year and have quite a few fewer turnovers. The 2022 squad was plagued by bad turnovers all season
2022 2023 Points 42 43 First Downs 47 30 Rushing Yds 305 221 Passing Yds 477 319 Turnovers 4 1
Better than being near the bottom in all of college football for offense. Yes, young players play a roll in this, but it doesn't justify all of it.And what exactly were you expecting with many underclassmen (with many freshmen) at the skilled positions?????
I originally thought 6 wins, and so far the first two games are going roughly how I expected so I see no reason to change my prediction yet.
The Iowa game has been a ******** every year under Campbell, and has never been predictive for the rest of the season going back to McCarney.
My issue is that they didn't even try to be explosive. This is why I usually stay away from this site following a loss. Many people don’t look at the big picture. Let me help
Freshman QB, freshman RB, freshman TE, underclassmen at WR (mostly). These skilled positions will get better as the season progresses as they are quite young. They faced a TOP 5 defense yesterday. Of course they wouldn’t look explosive.
Have you seen some of the other defenses in the big 12? The offense will be able to move the ball much easier in conference play.
4 wins is definitely not their ceiling. But I guess some people only see doom and gloom after a loss
There are easy explanations. Large plays downfield take time to develop. The OL may not have enough time to give the QB.My issue is that they didn't even try to be explosive.
If they took shots downfield, ran tempo, ran play action and still lost, I would be much happier that we are trying to put ourselves in a position to win.
I really fear we missed our window here. 2020 was great for us. And with all the talent we were bringing back 2021 should have been great. That should have been a year to win 9 or 10 games and really prove that we had arrived. Instead we stumbled. Recruiting wasn't able to take a step forward, and we aren't creating a positive narrative and a sense of momentum and energy around the program. I don't think CMC is going to get that opportunity again. And I think we are now in a position where you can't sell us as a program on the rise with a rising star young coach. Not sure how you really recover from where we are now at a program like ISU.Campbell had a real shot after 2020 and 2021 to really make this program jump to a whole other level, but honestly failed to do that. This program should have became stronger after those teams. It really does feel we are almost going backwards.
They average 11.5 more yards per game than Iowa so far. Points per game are better than Minnesota and Nebraska. And remember, half the games Iowa State had played have been against a top 5 defense.Better than being near the bottom in all of college football for offense. Yes, young players play a roll in this, but it doesn't justify all of it.
Becht is a third-string QB trying hard to be a starter. He can't throw more than 20 yards downfield accurately, and his strength was supposed to be as a runner, and we didn't call any plays for him to do so. If we think this little of Kohl, he should start looking for another place to play. You can't make Becht into another Purdy. We beat UNI, and I think we should beat Ohio, but the Big 12 season is all maybes. 2-10. Even Kansas is not a given this season.
There are easy explanations. Large plays downfield take time to develop. The OL may not have enough time to give the QB.
The coverage downfield may be good. Even if they drew up a play, like a double move, and the OL had adequate protection, the receiver may not be open. Do you want the QB to force a throw? I seem to recall Dekkers making such throws, especially when they were approaching the red zone, which often ended up poorly.
The one thing I can knock was the clock management yesterday. The touchdown drive just took too long; plays took way too long to signal in. But that can be cleaned up
Easy to be the armchair OC/QB. Anyone can say a team should do this or do that after the fact.Fair points, but that does not explain not running play action, not running tempo or even QB keeper on a zone read.
Of course, that is part of the allure of watching sports.Easy to be the armchair OC/QB. Anyone can say a team should do this or do that after the fact.
What do we all think for the rest of the season after this. Overreaction Sunday...
Our offense shut down the second half of Game 1 and played the best defense it will see all year in Game 2. They will improve and be fine. Be patient.Better than being near the bottom in all of college football for offense. Yes, young players play a roll in this, but it doesn't justify all of it.
