Running over and killing someone is a pretty large mistake. I would bet money if you run over a pedestrian and killed them; we would have seen your name on the news already for it.

I don’t disagree that it is a huge mistake. If it was a family member of mine, I would want justice. I guess what my point is is, why does the general public need to know who it was that committed the crime? What good does that do anyone (minus the family/friends of the individual who was killed) this instance to know who did it. What does it matter to any of us who did it?

I hate to say it but the same thing goes on like this in a lot of schools. The high and mighty for some reason have a way of keeping their name out of the media for things their kids have done. We had kids in Ames school system for it seem like 20 or so years. They would tell us all about the how so and so got out of a DUI or OWI by having their parents come pick them up. Doesn't seem like its right but it happens.

I guess I should probably be pretty pissed off that my name ended up in the police blotter at 17 years old for getting caught with a case of beer.
Can’t say I disagree with this either! I’m not sure why (or how) posting something like this (that you note above) publicly benefits society.

Fun fact, you have to know the standard in order to know if something is a double standard. If you know what the ICPD policy is on releasing minor's names then share it. Or even other similar situations from the ICPD where they named a minor, that would help. Otherwise you're just seeing a double standard because you want to.

If you believe like @BCClone does that all minor names should be released then just say that, it's a perfectly fine opinion.

Not exactly sure.

Why I believe those causing deaths in traffics should be named is that there is rarely any punishment when it happens. At least putting the names out there seems to be a very minor punishment.

And that's a fine position to take, I don't agree, but it's a valid point of view. Although in this case there haven't been any charges filed as of now.
Jim Boeheim hit and killed someone on accident, wasn't charged, but his name was still plastered all over headlines about it.

What if they're not at fault?

I have no problem, if they sit on it until police make a determination and just report a 2 vehicle crash or something. It doesn’t bother me that they aren’t mentioning the name of the driver yet (as long as they are consistent which many times that doesn’t seem to happen with various organizations).

I mean isn’t that what the courts system is for (granted I get the point your trying to make that the affluent get off the hook more than the non wealthy)? Why do you feel like the public should have the ability to extend punishment to the individual above and beyond what the court is supposed to do?

Do you seriously believe that that doesn’t already happen whether it is just or not? I’ve seen enough people hire good enough lawyers and walk away from crimes. Had a neighbor twice be at fault but the first trial was an estate of a young couple and the second was a young child of a poor family. Walked away from both and only had attorney fees from those deaths. He still drives recklessly.
