THT didn’t have freakish athleticism, but rather freakish reach and wingspan. His vertical was 34.5 at the combine?
Close to that. What was he 6'4 with a 7'3 wingspan or something like that.

So you agree or don’t agree on Conditt?

Sounds like you’re being overly emotional about a different opinion on Conditt and next year, and voicing my reply that I disagree wasn’t to your standards.

A bet on a sports message board evokes such emotion? Relax, it's a message board.

Here's a hint, the bet is a device to point out the laughable fallacy in the poster's response. They don't actually disagree with the risk profile in regards to not improving. No one was contending it is not possible, but rather unlikely.

Yes, those are the stats.
Doesn’t translate to elite scoring? Don’t result to a straw man.

It’s not nitpicking to say that the example you used to support Holmes possibly being better than thought, was an extreme hyperbole, but mostly a fabrication.

His per 40 points were 2-3 more. I think most thought that possible. It was known we brought him in to be the guy.

Lol. Your meltdown is entertaining.

So, you’re not confident we’re better. Totally agree.

Let me remind you what you got triggered over:
“With Holmes being the pickup next to AJG, I’m not sure it’s overall as good as last year, but a tough offseason to rebuild in.”

Of course TJ is “good” with the signing. That’s hardly a counter to posting the notion we may not be as good next year. I’m not sure why you’re so upset by that thought, but relax.

Pointing out a strawman isn't an insult.

By the way, do you recall your disagreements with people saying finishing 7th was possible?
So, you think we'll be better next year?

Yep. Big strong guard like Kantrail.

Man, I loved that guy. I'll never forget the 3 he hit in Lawrence that was probably beyond NBA range. Good defender too.
And Kantrail was often defending the big small forwards many of the teams in the Big 12 had. They may have had inches on him, but he was almost always stronger. Guys like OSU's 6-5 Glendon Alexander, OSU's 6-7 Desmond Mason or KU's 6-5 Kenny Gregory.

Another 6' 4" guard that can't shoot. He'll fit right in
On the contrary, I think he'll be fine in a role where he is playing as the #2 scoring option next to Green. Should be more efficient at the very least. If he falls somewhere between 27-38%, which I imagine will be the case, I think most would be happy. Would love to see him shoot 76% from the line again, our guys really struggled there outside of Izaiah.

He shot .400 his first year at St. Bonny and .381 his second year and despite his struggles last year he is a career .338 shooter from the behind the arc. If he is able to regress to the mean he will be just fine.
Sounds like he shot a lot higher volume of 3s according to Williams and Blum. Wonder if he got stuck with the ball a lot at the end of the shot clock and was forced to throw up a desperation shot?

The way I look at it, worst case scenario is we have another Gabe. Better odds we get a good game from the position having two, rather than one.

Optimistically, he’s different than Gabe, if not better. A little more capable creator and shooter. But unless Williams takes a big step, we’ll need one of Holmes/Gabe to be a good Big 12 #2 option, or at least a good 3P shooter. Getting Basile would help, if he’s capable of being another #2 or #3 option. The best case scenario is all that occurs, plus Gabe returns to sophomore form

Well his 3.7 attempts per game last year were more than his 2.5 his first year but fewer than his 4.6 attempts his second year. His second year he shot .381. He could still have been forced to put up bad shots but the number of attempts was actually down from the year before when he shot much better.

Way up there
Holmes will benefit from not having to be an ironman. He played 38+ minutes in something like 15 games last year, averaged 38 mpg. He was asked to be a dawg at both ends for basically 40 minutes every night, that wears on your legs. That impacts how you shoot.

For reference IB played 34 mpg and Hunter 32 last year to lead us.

The Bonnies were very thin last year. All the starters averaged over 30 minute/game. The next closest was 13 minutes/game.

TJ never intended for Lipsey to be the starting pg & Holmes to be the back up who actually shares the position. The Temple transfer going down changed the plan. I wouldn’t be surprised that when the injury happened that TJ thought Gabe, Grill & Holmes would split the minutes with Lipsey not ready for the meat grinder the B12 is. Holmes won’t get MVP of this team but without him, they would struggle.

These are his stats through 2/16
STATS
2022-23

Kind of what the hope was when we got him. Doing a good job at stuffing the stat sheet; not overly efficient shooting the ball, but has shot well from 3 (was 27% last year with Bonnie). I'd hate to know where we would be without him.
