We need to rush their punter not to block but so he kicks it quick and not hold it so his kick coverage has more time to get down field

Yep. With a wet ball I'd be fine with a blanket rule of fair catching all punts today. Might as well send 10 on every punt.

I don't mind putting a little pressure on Iowa's punter, but if we hit him and give them another 4 downs and don't get off the field.... I'll probably throw my remote through the TV.

Another 4 downs just gives Petras 3 more incomplete passes. But putting a thought of getting hit might cause the punter to speed up and not be as effective.

They'll still win 8-9 games. I've seen this movie before. Petras or his backup will improve, their OL will improve, they'll get a few WRs back. And then they'll punt and intercept their way through the pillow fight that is the B10 West. Keep it close, wait for the mistake and kick a FG to win. That's how they've done it for years. B10 teams for the most part do not know what to do when their run game is stuffed. Outside of Purdue anyway.

McCarney beat iowa by making them cover in space. He knew that he couldn't just line up and run it down their throats. I hope that our coaches have learned that lesson by now. That's one thing that I like so far about Dekkers...he seems pretty calm back there and isn't going to run around trying to make something happen and gift them a turnover. If he throws a bad pass and it gets picked, that's fine, but just don't get all rattled and play crazy.
actually Mac did run it down their throats. We ran the ball well in 1998, 200, Rutland ran well in the second half in 2002, 2004, and 2006. In 2005 we ran it very well against them, Iowa had to bring extra in the box and we beat deep them with a play action rollout Meyer to Blythe.

We actually had a coach that could develop o lineman back then.

We there is that, but culturally he had our guys playing with their hair on fire for this game. Even in loses over in Iowa City in 2004 and 2006, they played tough. He never had much depth like Campbell, but he could put a decent 22 on the field which is enough to be competitive for an early September rivalry game
