I think they could struggle with Illinois and Minnesota. Both of those teams look improved and they’ll be on the road. Purdue and Wisconsin both seem like losses at the moment. They’ll handle Northwestern and Nebraska though.
I hope you are right. Fleck is really good at coaching the Gophers out of a win and handing it over to the loss column.

My biggest fear is we play soft on the corners, only rush three, and allow a horrible QB to gain confidence just dumping it off to wide open receivers who get 5-10 yards every time. I can almost guarantee that’s what happens in the first half. We typically don’t put a bunch of defenders in position to make a tackle and our first guy tends to miss a lot. I’m not trying to be Debbie Downer but I’ve seen this movie before. God I hope I’m wrong.
I too have had nightmares of the exact scenario you're describing. I love what Heacock has come in and done here at ISU, but this bend-but-don't break for a half, then play lights out in the 2nd gives me way more anxiety than necessary these days. SEMO gained way more yards and had way too many big plays than I am generally comfortable with giving up to an FCS opponent (yes, I understand we blew them out LOL).

bingo- they will nickel and dime us all day. SEMO did that to an extent. Especially on their first drive.

Padilla. If Iowa's offensive woes continue into the first half tomorrow, Kirk will finally give the backup a chance. And he'll probably light us up.
If Padilla is in the game (assuming he doesn't start of course) then things have probably gone upside down a bit for the Hawks. If he lights us up in garbage time, while we're lined up in our prevent defense and up 2-3 scores, I'm ok with that. LOL

This is one matchup where I am glad to have moved on from the Purdy Big Game Clown Show.

It's simple, but it this shows how it really comes down to turnovers, especially in the last few years. Win the turnover battle, and you're probably gonna win the game. One interception is okay if its from Dekkers throwing deep downfield, but can't have turnovers in our own territory.

Honestly, I think Kirk is too stubborn to go to Padilla in game 2.

I don’t know what to expect. I just hope we don’t use a bunched offense. I liked that we targeted WRs last week. Only 4 catches by TEs, if you include Rus a TE. I didn't look real close, but I assume that means not many multiple TE sets.

I don’t mind multiple TE sets, but hate it against Iowa. Plays right into what they want to do defensively.
There were a lot of two tight end sets last week.

8-9 wins may be possible, but I think the team we will see Saturday will likely be similar to what played SD State last week unless there is a surprise player returning that we don't know about or Petras/Padilla have an out of body experience.
I expect the team today to be nothing like they were Saturday. We’ll see.
