What do you miss/appreciate about Iowa?

that island napoleon got sent to
Have lived in the San Joaquin Valley California for 6 years now, I miss:
- being surrounded by lush green vegetation (actual grass that I can walk on)
- being close to bodies of water that I can fish or kayak in (instead of a concrete canal)
- working with competent people (people here are friendly, but unhelpful and no concern for quality)
- limited red tape and regulations (seems CA makes rules so people have work to do)
I live and work in Texas used to live in Cali....... I can tell a large difference in the amount of basic education people have. I went to school in Iowa from 90s- 00s... Didn't know it at the time but my god our education system must be miles ahead of the other states.

I legitimately feel bad by people who are so overwhelmed/blinded by bad politics that they can't see the staggering amount of positive things happening here. It's sad, but it seems to be a reflection of our current reality.
I’ve said before that you live in a unique area of Iowa. Okoboji is another rural, uniquely good area. I do envy your lack of crowds at outdoor activities.

Scenes similar to this leaving Omaha and going east on I-80. Only more picturesque (i.e. dew on the soybean fields at sunrise).

A large % of my friends from ISU were from Okoboji and I've spent a lot of time there. I also have family friends from the Kalona area, which is really well off too. So I have spent a lot of time in unique, disparate parts of rural Iowa that are doing fairly well.

I’m still in Iowa but if I moved:
Sweet corn
AE french onion dip
Iowa pork chops and beef
local restaurants and breweries

Yeah mostly just the good local food.

The 10 days a year where the weather doesn't suck.

Seriously, Fall weather is great. Also the years where we do get a white Christmas, I love it. Low cost of living and lack of bad traffic are nice too.
