You have to consider the new landscape of the portal. We aren’t going to know next years roster until this summer . It’s going to be tough to get another IB production wise but it’s no longer 1 in a 100, it’s happens a lot more often these days. As I have mentioned before to this point zero reason to not give TJ the benefit of the doubt.
I agree with your points here. I just don’t understand people thinking it’s a given we maintain or take a step forward next year. To your point, we won’t know until summer.

If we have several of our seniors return, land a legit shooting threat/scorer, add King and our freshman class we’re as good or better. We have several seniors leave and don’t backfill with equal talent in the portal and we could really struggle

Agree. Jaz made a huge difference this year. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand college basketball.

If TJ goes out and recruits over him I’ll br the first one to applaud him. I just don’t see that kind of Calvary coming.

My guess is that IB, Conditt, Enaruna, and Gabe all leave. We are seriously thin next year if that happens.
But this is just the nature of college basketball. Right now pretty much everybody is looking thin next year. But ISU has a coach that got talent to come to ISU during the McDoormat era, and is coming off a sweet 16. I think we will be OK. I do think it might be a challenge to get back to the tourney next year if Brockington leaves. So many games him making tough shots was the only hope for clearing 45 points as a team.

Not to mention that teams were loading the left side on defense. You notice in the game that most drives came from the right side and our “shooters” were more open on the right? They were taking away IBs left side and making us either beat them with someone else or Brock going right.
The fact that we were so easy to guard all year shows what an incredible effort these guys gave us

22 wins, sweet 16. Crazy. I still think TJ has a ways to go to compete with the legendary coaches in the conference, but damn he did work this year.

TJ will want Jaz back. He doesn't mind doing the dirty work and we need guys like that.
100%. Jaz is ideally a guy that comes off the bench, but anyone on here that thinks TJ doesn’t want a guy like that back is crazy. He proved he can compete at this level and be a contributor on a Big 12 team. I actually think his defense was improving late in the year and during the tournament. Another summer of strength snd conditioning will help him too.

I don't think it's a given that we maintain or take a step forward. But I think even if IB leaves, it doesn't have to be a big step back.

I expect Tre King to come in and be a major factor at the 4/5 - he'll provide some offensive and defensive versatility. I expect Hunter to improve, potentially a lot. He already shot a lot better later in the season; it was more of an asset than a liability. In my mind, his biggest area to improve is finishing at the rim and/or drawing fouls, then the next is limiting turnovers. If he does both of those things, I think he could be a 1st team Big 12 player next year.

If those things happen and TJ gets someone who at least is an okay Big 12 starter to replace Brockington, then this team could maintain. Even in that scenario if Hunter doesn't improve as much as I think he could, that team could still compete for the tournament. Especially since the defensive culture is set now, I think the offense next year shows more flexibility and fluidity.

Not exactly sure.
This was such a huge jump that we will have to remember that it doesn’t just mean final four next year. We could improve and not make the sweet sixteen. This year was above and beyond anything. We also had the surprise factor with a new coach and lineup. Won’t have that next year.

Hopefully the calls for so many to come back don't lead to the same type of expectations as football last year.

That was a good lesson that you can't just snap your fingers and replicate the same sort of deal.

14-15 basketball was sort of like that. People were shocked that a team returning so much experience would lose a non-conference game.

Agreed, pretty much what I was getting at.

2 or 3 of offensive rebounds in the 2nd half turned into made 3's by the Canes, right when ISU was trying to make a run. Those were killers.

Some were bad misses that took huge bounces out to their back court. Sometimes **** happens. Really it felt like Miami should have won by more than they did. Doesn't change how big of an accomplishment this season was.

Clones were playing with house money and finally crapped out.

I am sorry to break it to people, but we’re going to be in for a rough ride next few years if TJ doesn’t kill it in the portal and land a big time class for 2023. I am hoping a few guys take their COVID year.
True. We have to be exceptional at recruiting because all the other conference schools are reloading at a high level. I mean look at what TTech did in the transfer portal. Pretty good.

Won't help. I give up. We got lucky with Fizer and Tinsley to make the 8 back in the day. We will never be a big enough market or a good Cinderella to make it much further than the 8. Miami is a big market. St. Peter will all of a sudden never get a call. Totally awe struck how it is going to end up all blue bloods at the end. hmmmmmmm ratings much. **** you ESPN

Me and a buddy were talking I told him whoever plays Duke has to be up 10 with 5 minutes left or Duke will win. The love fest with coach K will ensure it.

Kinda stings to hear it phrased that way.

The way it was said on the radio post game wasn't meant that way I believe. JW chimed right up basically saying I don't think that'll be a problem.
