Get 5-6 in top 25 every year and better tv deals should happen, correct?????

If people watch them. The best way to make this work is:

1) Keep your Autotomy Five status, which seems like a done deal
2) Secure access into expanded playoff
3) Win in OOC match ups
4) Win in the post season
5) Go back to next deal with lots of wins.

Must depend on the neighborhood, I knew more ND fans in random Iowa towns than I did in Chicago. Big Ten transplants and Packer transplants were literally everywhere.

The point is the "local" college teams Illinois and NW are not even top 15 in popularity in that city. I mean straight up you will run into an Iowa State fan before IL/NW.

The reason I bring it up is Cincy. Are they like that in Cincy or Ohio at large? Are they the fifth most popular team or are they actually even way lower than that.

I would guess their consistent basketball success has won them a lot of tshirt fans over the years. Ohio State isn't far and away the best college basketball team in the state, without looking it up I'd guess Cincy has done at least as well if not better.

Buckeyes
Browns
Indians
Bengals
Cavs
CBJ
Steelers
Reds

FC Cincy
Cincy
OU
Other non OU MAC state schools

Cincy has a tough battle in its own metro area with UK imo

So does the addition of these teams make it easier for OuT to negotiate a quicker, less expensive exit? If these teams are added, can OuT's lawyers then argue that there is less damage to the league with their departure? I'm not really talking about the contractual penalties, but more the above and beyond that was being discussed if they left before 2025.

Kinda wondering if this is ESPN's motivation to speaking in positive terms about the expansion. Even the typically negative blowhards like Finebaum have kept their distance from being critical about the league. It's almost like they are creating news based on their business interests. Strange.

They already self promote their own interests. The change in stance is noticeable though. These quick moves are likely driven by a deal with ESPN and Fox. The Big 12 owns two cards:

1) OU/TX are going to owe AT LEAST $80m a piece. There is a clause in the bylaws that state how communication with other conferences can occur and allows for buyouts to be increased by the conference if there is a material loss to the conference by their exit. It was in ESPNs best interest to tell the Big 12 they weren't worth anything so they could get TX/OU to the SEC where they own everything. Now its in their best interest to state the Big 12 is worth more, so the buyouts reside around the minimum.

2) The Big 12 owns the rights to TX/OU through 2025. Even if they play for the SEC, ESPN has to come to the Big 12 for permission to air those home games and the checks go to the Big 12. ESPN wants those properties as fast as possible, but especially by 2023, when the top games in the SEC move from CBS to ESPN.

My guess is the Big 12 is already in negotiations with ESPN to maintain the value of the current contract even after expansion, and perhaps future considerations, in exchange for the rights to OU/TX early. Knowing the Big 12 also knows ESPN sent feelers out to some schools via the AAC, and that's no longer a thing and the 8 schools aren't seemingly concerned with things they were very concerned about a month ago, I'd also guess its going well.

UK basketball could host multiple sold out "home" games in Cincy every year, but I think they could do the same in Nashville.

Talk is expanded Big 12 may get $25 Million per team. Plus 3rd Tier. Plus Bowl money. NCAA Tourney money. Hit financially may not be as bad as thought. ESPN has to Cover their Ass.

ACC looking weaker than Big 12. PAC 12 weaker than ACC. AAC going to take a huge hit. Their best is gone. Will they even get $7 million per team going forward?

Big 12 might actually survive.

Wondering if tier 3 will remain on ESPN+. I assume so since that deal is still active

So is Bowlsby's gambit paying off??

It'll depends on who gets the tier 1 rights. If it's CBS, then I can see Paramount+ taking the tier 3. If it's Fox, then it'll likely be on the Fox Sports Go platform. Everyone has their own platform now, so I'd imagine they'd be negotiated as a package.

$25M will keep everyone alive, but it is still a ~$10M hit vs today. I love JP's ability to manage the finances here, at least we got that going for us. Will have to find some ways to really monetize the Tier3 stuff, need more than $2M per year.

Still, $25M vs $60-80M in B1G or SEC is a huge difference. Wonder how ACC and PAC will do on their next round? Stay in the $30M range or double it? Feels like they won't be going up that much. You may end up with a major and minor league situation. Any good coach or player in the "minors" will get poached pretty fast if the money is double in the "majors"...

ACC and Pac are naive if they don't realize they are in an identical situation to the Big 12. Luck and circumstance has saved ACC from similar. Only geography has saved the Pac from similar. The Big Ten's eternal wait for ND probably has helped the ACC as well.

If it seems like 16 helps the SEC, the ACC is in same boat as us sooner rather than later. If 16 helps SEC, the Big Ten automatically goes to 16 and the SEC maybe gets even bigger.

If I were an ISU fan I'd be hoping the PAC can improve its position by a lot. If they don't, it'll make it that much more enticing for some combination of USC, Oregon, UCLA, Washington to seek a B1G invite.

One person says it may be 25+ so the B12 can survive, another says IDK how 25 works. lol

I guess we will have to wait and see but I suspect JP knows that a significant cut at this point won't fly given what he's done to try and position ISU competitively. If anyone is increasing, he can't sit still, let alone move backward and hope to put a good product out there and keep guys like CMC around.

There already is a minor league situation. ISU is just trying everything they can to stay on the right side of that "wall".

I'm hoping the SEC - B1G is cool with some teams like the Rays and Athletics being in the same league as the Yankees and Dodgers.

Oh....and **** the AAC

25 Million is a major reduction in income.

They will have to cut the overhead, salaries and staff outside of Football and M Basketball.

Almost nobody cares if we never win in any of the other sports.

Maybe sustained wining in football and basketball eventually funds other sports to be better.

But we get $28M in tv money today and $40 overall. $25m in TV money would be similar but the real question is if the B10 and SEC are pulling in $60-70M and the other conferences are pulling in half that, what are the B10 and SEC schools going to spend their extra money on that everyone else cant? Does the SEC break away and pay all players $50,000 a year just because they don’t know what else to do with their money?

It's the Guardians now. I'm guessing Cincy's fan base will start to grow. Pro teams shouldn't count since they play on Sundays, and every college football fan has a favorite Pro team as well.
