Sorry, but this is the best doable option - imo.
The chance of us going to the B10 (everybody's #1) is remote, as is the P12. We do not get in them just because we want to.
I see the key to how this all plays out as being if we retain our P5 status. If we do, things will be OK, not great, but good. This will minimize our $ loss. Sadly, I think this is the best we can probably do. I am hoping we can get $20-25 M out of this. That might be high, but I am hoping.

Agreed with your points. It may not be ISU ideal option but better than the worst case scenario. I think the new conference has a plan to get each school above the 30 mil mark similar to the current media rights. The escalation form purposed expansion to accepting 4 schools means the irate 8 know the media deal they will get for adding. I don't see Jamie just accepting half the current budget to get schools. It has already been reported the new schools would be accepting less of a share to start in the new Big 12. (they will happily do this due the AAC payout only being 7 mil currently.)

Also this doesn't mean ISU doesn't end up in the Pac 12 or Big 10 just not now. Right now the key for ISU is just to survive until the invite or super 64 CFB conference is created. This will get the Big 12 security solid money and a spot in the CFB playoff which is what is needed to survive. Perhaps even thrive considering ISU current talent and Campbell as the coach and OuT leaving. Cautiously optimistic this plan could work but want to see the money payouts to fully buy in.

I assume adding teams doesn’t affect the buyout distribution. Otherwise, it is a no-brainer. Keeps the conference alive. No one else is interested in adopting us orphans. Make the greedy dirtbags pay as much as possible.

BYU is a logical choice with semi-national brand/religious organization.

Cincy I'm OK with. Over the last 18 or so years, they've had 5 coaches and all of them have had decent to great success. Brian Kelly, Butch Jones, and Luke Fickel all have posted 10/11 win seasons. Dantonio and Tubberville posted 9 win seasons as their high water mark. That program doesn't have name cachet, but is better than people realize. Good area for recruiting to that program.

UCF. The fact that they could be in a P5 conference and Scott Frost is not (in the near future) is good enough for me.

Not really liking the Houston addition. Would prefer Memphis which has the recruit rich Tennessee/SEC region to draw from. Memphis has been solid under Fuente and Norvell.

The last few Houston coaches did have a really great season here and there, but they really haven't outperformed Cincy in a far better recruiting region. Holgerson has not done well there wither.

If that is the best we can do, there is no hurry to do this now. Explore all options. I'm not going to leave a good paying job at a company who announced they are going to close in four years and jump at a job at McDonalds. Take some time to see all options.

Somewhat curious the Big12 decided to add 4 teams to replace 2.

Also surprised they decided to act so quickly. With the Big10 & Pac12 TV contracts expiring before Big12, would seem like we could have slow played expansion.

I get that these are probably the 4 best options that are available at this time. It's not like Clemson would jump to the B12.

What I don't understand - and I'm sure there must be some logic to it - is why is there such a hurry to name these 4?

Still would love to get to the Big10 but who knows if this will happen.

Honestly, I would rather have gone to the Big 10.

Well no s**t. And I'd like to win the $300 million lottery too.

We probably aren't getting a B1G or PAC 12 invite if the Big 12 presidents and AD's are seriously looking at making this move.... so this is likely the best thing we can do.

I like the addition of BYU, Cincy, and UCF.... not sure about Houston though.

Things are moving quickly to create certainty and stability for the conference. With things more or less settled, athletic departments can recruit and retain without looming uncertainty. The buyouts and departures may take longer but it will be straight forward.

In Ohio, the football order goes -
Ohio State
Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati Bengals
University of Cincinnati

…the rest.
Newsflash: Browns and Bengals are not college teams. Cincinnati is 2nd best program in Ohio. BYU is 1 or 2 in Utah depending on the year. Houston and UCF are definitely 4th at best in their states, but they are also in large states.

I’d rather we be in the Pac 12, but IF this is what ends up happening, I’m good with BYU, Cincy and UCF.

Not a fan at all of the Houston choice.

I'm in the minority I'm sure... but I actually prefer Boise St over Houston. Boise St is a well known commodity in college football.... and not bad in MBB either actually. They also have great passionate fans too.... which Houston does not.

Also gives a little more footprint out west to add both BYU and Boise.
