Posted this last week in the Shaka thread...but seems to be relevant again. TT isn't a cellar dweller, as some seem to think they are.

Not sure why people think that TT is going "back to the cellar" if Beard leaves. TT pays a big salay and they can get big names there (i.e. Bobby Knight and Tubby Smith). They can also get good coaches there...like Chris Beard. They have a solid "modern" MBB history, dating back to Gerald Myers in the early 1970s. They only have two less NCAA tourney appearances than ISU does. Not to mention a great recruiting footprint.

If Beard does leave, I'd be so bold as to suggest that there would be as much or more interest in the TT job than there was in ISU's job.

Folks said the same about BU football after Briles left, and Rhule had them back to winning in short order. TT MB would likely be no different if they hire the right guy (like is the case for any other program hiring a new coach).

You have posted this same thing multiple times.

they plan on hiring a search firm so I assume they will go out of program.

reporter asked if there were any tech projects that beard had a hand in or wanted with the job?

Beard wanted to downsize the capacity of their arena.

JFC every damn school is downsizing their arena, Baylor, Tx, Tech, didn't pay any attention what TCU did during their remodel a few yrs back

Didn't read between page 1 and 9.
I'm shocked. Other than money, why? I guess he could see UT as a better year in-year out chance of national championships.
I have a hard time understanding why you'd develop something like what he's got at TT and leave it.

Austin > Lubbock, Bigger brand, easier to recruit to, and it's his damn alma mater. That means something to some people.

I honestly don't understand how this is that hard to understand for some people (not taking a shot at you). I think it'd be an entirely different situation if he didn't go to Texas. If I was in the coaching biz, that would be a huge draw for me to go back to my alma mater and build them into something great. Texas has all the resources in the world to be an absolute giant in any sport they want. Just need to find the right coach to get them there and if Beard thinks he can do it, IMO, it's pretty easy to see why he would do it

Texas’ rival is OU, not TTU. Everyone in Texas is not even their little brother. They are like their 2nd cousin. A&M used to be a rival but now they gone.
The only thing that Texas considers a rival is God himself but that can't talk about it since it would be blasphemous so they patronize rest of creation.

For some reason I thought TT was his alma mater. That he went to UT adds to the attraction.

And no offense taken. :)

If it was any place except Texas, I would agree. Texas has the most unrealistic expectations of any school in the nation. One bad season and they will sacrifice him.
