Yeah Max Urich was just sooo GREAT an AD that he hired Jimmie Dean Walden instead of Bill Snyder who was literally begging for the ISU job.....

JimmieDeanWalden goes on to a Zero Win Season and Bill Snyder goes on to become a Hall of Fame Coach who they name a football stadium after....

WAY TO GO MAX ...WAY TO GO!

Thankfully, that only happened right when college football was becoming a big deal on TV. Oh, wait, that's even worse.

I dislike many things currently about Iowa State basketball, but this is high up there for me. I enjoy getting to know the players and seeing them develop over 3 or 4 years. There are so many new faces every year under Prohm.

There will have to be a very significant culture shift to be able to build back to that 3 or 4 year player mold.

How many programs actually have that going now?

a lot of teams other than blue bloods. Even then, blue bloods tend to be great when they have some players return.

Going through Baylor's roster they have 6 guys that are in their 3rd year or more in the program. Our neighbors to the east have several. It doesn't have to be the whole team, but there should be a core group of players that spend 3 years in the program.

Seems odd that our AD with all of their staff would need a search firm to do that.
I'd imagine it also helps keep the logistics and contacts with candidates confidential, out of staffers emails/phones, etc....and of course allows the famous "I've not talked with anyone at the school" from coaches (big wink, as that means their agent talked to a search firm who talked to Jamie, etc)

It seems like his colleagues on the selection committee would prefer that he's not distracted by a firing if he doesn't have to be. If he chooses to be distracted by it it might be a poorer reflection on ISU.
Maybe it's also good...lots of time with other well connected folks who know college bball...and know he needs a new coach :)

Baylor, Virginia, Gonzaga, Iowa, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois. All those might have an occasional one and done, or two and done, but the majority are 3-4 year guys.

Don’t know if any of you are watching this USU-CSU game, but both of these teams would’ve beaten us by 10+ this year and last year. Personally I like Smith more as a coach, but Medved’s team looks solid.

Also. I’d give an arm and a leg for a Queta. Seriously.
