what’s Fred’s record been the last two years? People are all gitty about that

Reality is almost all coaches are going to have poor records thier first two years. The reason they got the job was to rebulid a faild coach after all.
Prohm is one of the few that get to take over a high ranked team that is returing most their starters.

And his record was fine for 2 years.

Give me a coach like Scott Drew that recruits tough players that play hard nosed defense and rebound the ball. Give me Jerome Tang.

Dennis Gates is only 30-28 the past two years. People need to look past just their record this year or 2 years. He shouldn’t be written off just because he is .500 the last two years.
I’d be a lot more giddy about Fred than T.J. Fred has already proven he can win at Iowa State.

I don’t disagree, but you could argue Fred’s success was partially due to TJs recruiting.

I don’t want either, but I don’t think it is fair to bash TJ for his record as a head coach and in the same breath praise Hoiberg for only his success here and not looking at the big picture

Think we got Johnny because Max Urich and Dave Cox asked him to help find ISU a coach (Max had Big10 roots). Johnny asked "What you Payin" and the rest is history (Although Michigan tried to keep him with a last ditch effort)
Yeah Max Urich was just sooo GREAT an AD that he hired Jimmie Dean Walden instead of Bill Snyder who was literally begging for the ISU job.....

JimmieDeanWalden goes on to a Zero Win Season and Bill Snyder goes on to become a Hall of Fame Coach who they name a football stadium after....

WAY TO GO MAX ...WAY TO GO!

Dear lord you are obsessed with TJ.

Prohm being awful isn't a defense of TJ nor does it make him the right option 6 years ago or now.

Ask yourself how often a coach who just had a losing record gets promoted to a P5 school. Is he on anyone else's hiring lists?

I have no reason to dislike the guy, he just doesn't have the resume you'd expect for a P5 opening anywhere.
Don't worry about it because Jamie Pollard already has his coaches to interview just in case Jamie Fires Steve Prohm....They will all probably have had more success than TJ....

It’s unbelievable to me how much people think ‘ties to Iowa State’ or ‘the Midwest’ matter..literally every coach since Orr has brought talent to Iowa State..Wayne Morgan, Greg McDermott, and Jim Hallihan should be evidence that Midwest ties don’t matter...or the fact that literally every coach since Orr has landed studs from the midwest without ties..coaching matters...it really, really does

Max Urich left Iowa State and became the AD at Kansas State.

One could also argue GMAC's failure's were partially due to TJ's recruiting.

While I tend to agree with your perspective that people overrate recruiting ties, Prohm's connections to the southeast proved to be a major flop and a horrible fit for Iowa State. Otz has been an ace recruiter in Wisconsin, where we've found some success, so I can understand why it counts in his favor.

I dislike many things currently about Iowa State basketball, but this is high up there for me. I enjoy getting to know the players and seeing them develop over 3 or 4 years. There are so many new faces every year under Prohm.
