Some perspective where UNLV is at concerning recruits and their Program. TJ’s First Year of recruits was essentially Transfers and Juco. Elijah Mitrou-Long was one of the best. He went down with injury late in the season. He was sorely missed.

They expected to bring in 4 Freshman Recruits the following year. They ended up bringing in 6. 2 Freshmen have played quite a bit. The other 4 will need more time to develop. But TJ is committed to building the program with HS recruits as he believes that 4 year players are how you build continuity and culture. That formula is familiar.

The addition of Mitrou-Long was the impetus for that first year. So the narrative that TJ had some success because of all the talent he inherited from the previous Coach is not really true. The one year influx of transfers was a large reason. TJ recruited Naz to Iowa State. That is what led him to getting Elijah Mitrou-Long.

Here is another link concerning this UNLV Freshman Class. Which is actually TJ’s first high school recruits since there were No HS recruits in the first class.

What do you mean by logistics?
“Many people think you hire search firms to identify [coaching] candidates. That’s not how it happens – at least not at Iowa State. I’m not doing my job if I don’t know who the candidates are. What we hired Parker Executive Search for, is to help us strategize and execute our plan. Daniel and Dan allowed us to be in a position to get the person that we wanted to get.” -Jamie Pollard

TJ has flaws. Other coaches have flaws. I just question if the right move is to hire a coach who just had a losing season at his current school. Plus I don't like that you could question whether his success at SDSU was actually him or the good state of the program/past coach.

Maybe he needs another year at UNLV, but I'm not sure I like that argument considering for the past 4 years many have said just give Prohm one more year. If TJ does great at UNLV then awesome, but for now I want a coach who's a proven winner with a stronger resume not a "well **insert excuses here for UNLV's lack of success**, but give him another year and he'll be great. People just don't know he's a great coach yet."

Umm no. He was not on Nagys bench. He took over a team with some talent and stayed good. Prohm took over a team loaded with talent and destroyed the program.
Tj took a team loaded with talent. Literally one of the best midmajor players of all time- and he had a dominant freshman season so Don’t try and sell everyone that it’s because of TJ. In TJ’s 3rd year he was still playing all of nagys guys outside of jenkins

I think the "TJisUs" crew immediately defeats any credibility they might have by equating anyone who dares to question the awesomeness of TJ's resume as a Prohm defender. Don't think there's anyone left on the Prohm train (OK, there are one or two who are or just like to troll, but set them aside).

TJ might make a great coach at ISU, but using Prohm's time at ISU as your "success" bar for why TJ should be hired doesn't really prove anything. By all means, he has pluses, and state those all you like. I'd just prefer you take off the rose-colored glasses when you do so and also avoid using Prohm to prop him up, as that prop works for all potential candidates.

Finally, it really doesn't matter at this time whether TJ should or shouldn't have been the hire last time. Who's the best candidate we can get this time? That's what matters. (OK, it may matter that JP really likes TJ and wants to hire him. I have no idea on that front, but it would certainly matter if so.)

If tj is hired without an adequate search I will likely be as interested in watching games next year as I am this year.
I tend this way, but I'm gonna to give in to my 1/4 glass-full optimism a chance.
Mainly, I'll watch the preseason games, not for wins or losses, but for the presence or absence of that "ick factor," yell at the t.v. feeling I got with virtually all of Prohm's teams. If I don't notice it, I'll be all in on TJ (or whomever).
I wanna get back to caring about ISU basketball b.b.
As my grandpa used to say, "Soon...or even sooner."

South Dakota still having success since TJ left after they promoted TJ’s Associate Head Coach to Head Coach. Must have left things in decent enough shape unlike Steve Prohm who destroyed our Program. Eric Henderson has done a great job. Or do you want to give the credit to TJ?

Dear lord you are obsessed with TJ.

Prohm being awful isn't a defense of TJ nor does it make him the right option 6 years ago or now.

Ask yourself how often a coach who just had a losing record gets promoted to a P5 school. Is he on anyone else's hiring lists?

I have no reason to dislike the guy, he just doesn't have the resume you'd expect for a P5 opening anywhere.

Eric is doing a good job. Brought in their best player Noah. Tj didn’t leave state in shambles by any means like prohm did here. TJ is one year away from being majorily on the hot seat in Vegas, that’s why I find it so funny how everyone is craving him.

I just want this long national nightmare to end. My head is spinning.

In my opinion JP should pull in someone who none of us suspect. I want to move forward with a new fresh name.

If I was hiring I'd go for a proven head coach who's been shown the money but hasn't been shown the love. I'm convinced there are nationally known head coaches who would come to Ames and the Big 12 for the thrill of making that place rock again. To make that happen the new coach will prove that he'll "run through the wall" for the players and they'll respond and play as one team.

This is a tall order and idealistic. But that's what I want.

The road wins will come if we double down and take care of home court.

An important first step in any ISU hoops rebuild - get back to taking care of business in Hilton.

Just hard for me seeing many fans getting excited if Pollard hires a head coach with a 29-30 overall record the last two seasons
Dennis Gates is only 30-28 the past two years. People need to look past just their record this year or 2 years. He shouldn’t be written off just because he is .500 the last two years.

We couldn't pull in a coach like that when we had one of the best returning rosters in the country and we are In a worse position now because it's a full blown rebuild. People need to be a little more realistic about just how attractive this job is.

Eric Henderson is a a great guy, a great coach and a personal friend of mine. I'd be for him getting our job. He's already been on our bench, with McDermott. He played for McDermott at Wayne State.
