Whoa now, "hate" is a strong word. Only a few people I hate in this world and a basketball coach definitely isn't one of them.

Disappointed, unqualified, in over his head are all things that come to mind about Prohm when he was hired.

Fair enough. I've been known to engage in hyperbole from time to time, somewhat similar to claiming that the 2019 Ohio State team is the worst at-large team to ever make the NCAA Tournament in history ;)

No way Pollard hires TJ and puts that poor young man Caleb Grill on the transfer wire again.

fixed it

dont think TJ does that but unlv def did it before.

Hahhahahaa.

I remember an off hand quote from some high school basketball coaches in Wisconsin during the last hiring phase that was something along the lines of, "If ISU hires Otz they will be on probation within 3 years".

He's not a bad guy by any means, but he wasn't considered a good recruiter because he followed every letter of the rule book.

I liked Caleb and thought he was thrown to the wolves way too early last year although we needed him. He was better than every freshman for us this year (Foster excluded). He was also better than Johnson and Jackson.

I know they don’t send in their resumes lol. I was being flippant. But seriously wouldn’t you get more interest when the position is officially open? That’s how we got Orr, if you don’t know learn your history

Coaches agents that are interested or know they’ll possibly be contacted by ISU, know that the job is more than likely to become open.

And given the coming environment of transfer portal madness, I would take a guy like Grill next year, as we’ll likely have plenty of scholarships to be had.

So when was the probation?

He worked here twice.

Not as the head coach, which is what the quote was in direct relation to. If you want to pick an argument, you're going to need better footing than this.

TJ got a little dirty on the recruiting trail, it's something I actually like about him. Don't like him as a head coach, do like him as a recruiter. If you want direct evidence of it in what was a very public situation, look in to why Jared Uthoff was blocked from going to ISU.

Coaching up a player and developing their talent so they become a dominant force. That is what successful Coaches do.
Cameron Payne won OVC player of the year when he played for Prohm, by far the best player in the league . He dominated for 2 years under Prohm before going to the NBA.

Is it all coaching or does the player who clearly exceeds the talent pool in their given league play a roll?

I am guessing both TJ and Steve designed their playbooks around the skills of the kids

The Daum question remains a fair one.

If Hally is at Murray State his sophmore year they probably roll up wins. Instead he has to play against teams being coached by guys like Huggins, Self, Drew, and Beard, who can field players with similar talents and can do a lot to shut down your top guy.

It will only get harder for TJ at ISU there are some good coaches in the MW, but Big 12 is another animal. When I see a guys like Jamie Dixon and Bruce Weber struggle, guys who have had some good NCAA tourney runs, I just think, damn.......

But I mean he was a HUGE part of their team...he was the reason I was watching all of their games. Kind of like Garza right now with Iowa.

Garza got better under Fran, but I'd like my evaluation of Fran to include mostly years without Garza.

So only head coaches get you on probation? Only head coaches pay players? What happened with Uthoff? Who blocked him from ISU?

Bo Ryan Blocked the ACC, Big Ten, Iowa State, etc. Bo Ryan was jerking Uthoff around. Iowa State was blocked because Bo Ryan is a complete jerk.

The league is going to have 70% of teams in the NCAA...and it's not even that rare. 60% or 70% is just as common as 50%.

Since Colorado and Nebraska left the Big 12 has been the deepest conference by miles. It'd be like the ACC or Big 10 regularly getting 10 or 11 teams in the dance every year.
