Sure Prohm could do that, or Iowa State can just claim there was a violation which caused his termination and the investigation can put off the buyout for years, or they actually find something and don’t pay it at all lol.

Not that I think JP will do that to his friend, it’s more likely Prohm also wants to leave and will negotiate his buyout.
Coaches always think they have the next wrinkle they can pull out and it's going to make them successful again. It might be the recruiting class coming in, anticipating roster gains from a year of growth, a change to scheme or whatever it happens to be but I guarantee he thinks he could be successful next year at Iowa State. He's going to want the shot to prove it. He knows he can't get a better job than the one he has.

I guarantee there are plenty of people posting on this message board right now who hate the job they currently have. I also guarantee those same people wouldn't do the same work they're doing for a 50%+ pay cut and change of scenery.

My assumption is Pollard has had his guy for awhile. That side is done done and done. He's good friends with Prohm and it will be a friendly separation meeting and emotional for both. That's just the way its going to happen.
He better have his guy lined up

What does firing Steve do today that will help us land Dana Altman?

I was responding only to the "take a deep breath". Steve isn't coming back whether it's today or next week so yeah......exhale. You can however start holding it waiting for who the next hire will be. Not when.......who.

You're naive to think prohm is taking any less than the buyout. He might be a below average coach but he's not stupid.

I'm sure this year has been absolute hell on Prohm and his family. If it's clear that JP is going to move on from Prohm, then of course then there's no point in Prohm negotiating.

If in the off chance JP says the finances won't work to make a move, so we need you to stick around Steve, but only if you clean house on your staff. Maybe then he wants out enough that he would negotiate it down.

I think the odds of that are extremely small, but pretty sad that they only leverage JP might have is the possibility of having to coach ISU for another year.

Pollard is already in Indy and locked down with the NCAA selection committee until Sunday night. He probably won't get back to Ames until late Sunday night.

Are we sure he comes back to Ames? I think all committee members help with running the games at the venues. He may be gone for awhile.

Correct but has lots of p6 recruiting experience, Smith and Prohm have been mid major lifers. I wasn't saying one was better than the other, just that Smith is the most like Prohm of the guys we've been linked to.

You are probably right as far as "walking into" situations. However I think Utah State is a tougher job than Murray State and in a tougher league. If not.......then that's another mark against a coach who just went 8-10 in that league.

Foreseeable issue that was avoidable.
What benefit is there to waiting if an agreement has been reached, besides the false notion it’s being nice to do it in person in a pandemic? Particularly given it’s not actually nice and not fair to the players.

It's not necessarily "avoidable" if JP preferred to wait until there were no more games left to be played to make a move. JP has been in Indianapolis in the bubble since early this week.

JP was really ticked at how the team was impacted when Chizik left and talked to the team for like 5 minutes on the way out of town. I think the lesson he learned from that is to overcorrect and not provide for that situation ever again.

You are welcome to disagree with the approach, but that's just not how JP views it, in my estimation. JP absolutely believes this way "more fair" to the players, as far as I can tell.

Maybe there will be an announcement today, but I just doubt it.

On the flip side, I absolutely believe if JP did not have these committee duties, there would probably have been a PC today.

If my current job was taking years off my life, and probably making my family miserable, I would absolutely take a huge pay cut. And of course with Prohm's past salaries and buyout (even if reduced) he's well into the diminishing utility range.

But, I agree it would take Prohm believing that he's not going to turn it around AND Pollard leaving the option available for Prohm to stick around for him to even have an alternative option to weigh.

TJ walked into a real sweet deal at SDSU and has built absolutely nothing at UNLV. Unless beating Air Force 3 times in one season is considered a resume enhancer.
People keep thinking this but it’s really not true. TJ took over a good program in SDSU but he took over after their coach of 20 years left. That coach was their program. He took them from D2 to good D1 school. It wasn’t a rebuild but it wasn’t the easiest job in the world that had a history of multiple coaches succeeding like Murray State.

UNLV is not a good job. It may have resources and name recognition but it is very much like Texas with big money donors who think they are better than they are. TJ took over and got them to second place in the conference his first year. This year has been a struggle but he is looking to be bringing good talent in.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. People can prefer other coaches than TJ. That seems plenty reasonable. There is no reason or justification for the attacks that he can’t be successful or that he is just another Prohm. His resume is nothing like Prohm’s.

I have no issue with waiting to talk to Steve before making an announcement, so long as it doesn't put us behind the curve in a coaching search.

I also find it funny that we think just because it hasn't been widely broadcast to the fanbase that those who need to know don't have a sense of what's coming. What's to say conversations haven't already occurred, but they aren't putting it out publicly until JP can be back in Ames to help with damage control?
