Of course we didn't sign up for those results. Results like that are why he has a buyout clause that we agreed upon.
He's an idiot if he negotiates that down. Nice or not, we owe him that money.

Yep...it is his money! We know of no reason he shouldn't be paid that money. Sure the results in the program are embarrassing but if an AD puts that into a contract...it should be paid! I am excited to move on...but I don't hate Prohm...it just didn't work. Cut him his check and start over!

Lol. You guys act like this is some gas station job. JP and Prohm have talked, they both know what is coming. Many have said that a deal is already in place for them to part ways, so there's likely not going to be a firing. I'm guessing they both already talked about the timing of the announcement, and must have agreed its best to do it next week.

Pathetic.

What if we’ve said due to Covid, either you agree to reduce the buyout or you’re coming back? And he wants out enough to agree.

Actually Pollard did sign up for the possibility of that when he decided to save money on a mid major coach with no P5 experience. (Like TJ)

I am sort of wanting JP to choose TJ. Then TJ has great success and rebuilds our program. And then doofuses like you can say, “I sure wish JP hadn’t chosen TJ. He could have gotten us another Steve Prohm.”

Consider that we have not hired a Head Coach with P5 Experience since we hired Johnny Orr.

I know you hate TJ but WTF are you talking about. TJ has extensive P5 experience unless you mean as a head coach and then most certainly we are hiring someone like that anyway. We likely aren’t ponying up for Beilein or Matta.

Pathetic? Why would he not come back if he wasn't fired? He isn't going to quit! He didn't hold a gun to anyone saying "put this buyout in my contract"! If he took another job then sure...but that isn't going to happen, right? He might not enjoy his job at this point but at what cost to his family's long-term finances...millions of dollars worth?

Isn’t TJ the closest to “another Prohm” we’ve been linked to? Lol

Everyone knows they’ve talked. It’s the asking what’s the benefit to next week? The only one is further reducing the buyout and/or optics so Steve can get lured away by another job.

This notion you wait because you need to use convention in a pandemic when the AD is away is silly. If we’re worried about convention, you fire him today, as having a coach still does provide some convention constraints when looking to replace him.

I get that. It's why he shouldn't just walk away. Wanting out or not, you don't do it for free when they owe you millions of dollars.
No one said free, although that’s the nice thing to do. Grey Andersen is everything people wanted to say Prohm is. Although we all know they didn’t actually know anything about Prohm, it was just something to bring up when you can’t refute how terrible he is as a coach.

He’s not just walking away, he’s negotiating the buyout.
A poster asked why wouldn’t we give him the buyout? It’s because it’s a mutual separation, not a firing.

My assumption is Pollard has had his guy for awhile. That side is done done and done. He's good friends with Prohm and it will be a friendly separation meeting and emotional for both. That's just the way its going to happen.

Agree on the separation meeting, but there are zero reasons why this could not have happened prior to Prohm leaving for KC. Both guys understand JP's prior commitments and that this decision has already been made.
JP should release a press statement no later than 10am. As he's said many times, this is business.

How awkward would this meeting have to be. Do you start with some chit chat? Talk about the weather a little bit? Do you just jump in to the "hey you're fired" part?
