Football is a bit different where there is a lull period between the end of the regular seasons and the bowls. This gives time to gauge interest without interfering with the post season. In basketball, the post season starts immediately so good coaches are focused on that right now. Any coach that isn't preparing for games this week are ones that we probably don't want.

I'd be very surprised if Prohm hasn't already been told that he won't be retained. But Pollard would want to be present during the press conference, so he can't announce it yet. A coach that thinks they can stay on would say so. This is all about hammering out the buyout terms.
Most people not named Matt Campbell have an agent who you would be dealing with.

If pollard even considers another year he may need to have his head examined. Give Prohm the Bobby Bonilla treatment on the buyout if necessary but he needs to be gone and I’ll help him pack

Does it matter? Jamie can be reaching out to candidates before Prohm is let go
Yes, it does.
You only wait if Prohm is hoping to “leave” for another job, as that could impact the agreement and certainly has optics implications for Prohm

There is no “nice” reason to wait. The nice thing to do is to announce it as soon as an agreement has been reached, that way your players can know (and make informed decisions), without being put in a bush league situation when the press asks if Prohm is returning. It’s more nice to Steve too.

If you’re directly talking to other coaches about your vacancy, an announcement should have already been made. That’s the convention. If just reaching out via channels, something that you should be months into by now, but have an agreement, there’s no benefit to waiting

I've let people go and have been let go in a business that had some visibility but certainly not like this. Get on with this process and if Prohm is the "nice guy" that many have said he is we should treat him with respect and dignity by wrapping this up quickly. He should do the same for ISU and consider reducing that buy out amount to prove what a nice guy he is. Yes, $5 million is a contracted buy out but we didn't sign up for the results we got. I hope he is considering that because an 0-18 conference record IS NOT what ISU signed up for either.

Let’s let things play out til a decision is made quit wasting your time on posting ridiculous comments let’s show some respect for coach prohm , yes he officially is still our coach.

Do you think based on things like results since the program officially became 'his' that CSP should still be the coach at ISU?

And be specific as to why.

Might be a long shot, but maybe this extra week gives other smaller schools who are also out tile to reach about to Prohm about a HC job, before actually being “fired”.

It should have already been discussed, don't see why Indy has to have anything to do with it. The writing was on the wall before now - having that discussion this week/last week with a "barring running the table" disclaimer should have covered it. Then just announce today.

I think JP is in a bubble on the committee. I also think this is something JP doesn't want to do to CSP via teleconference or press release, but in person. Similarly, I suspect JP could also want to meet with the team in person in advance of the news hitting the wire.

While "everyone knows" what is probably going to happen, I think "the right way" is for these final items to be completed in person, and that's why I believe it all goes down on Monday.

I'm not sure that firing CSP today vs. Monday satisfies anything but everyone's impatience to turn the page.

That’s my hope. Give time for Prohm to be “hired away” by some trash low major in the south.

Actually Pollard did sign up for the possibility of that when he decided to save money on a mid major coach with no P5 experience. (Like TJ)

Foreseeable issue that was avoidable.
What benefit is there to waiting if an agreement has been reached, besides the false notion it’s being nice to do it in person in a pandemic? Particularly given it’s not actually nice and not fair to the players.

Of course we didn't sign up for those results. Results like that are why he has a buyout clause that we agreed upon.
He's an idiot if he negotiates that down. Nice or not, we owe him that money.

This, and if the 5 day delay to announcing was important Jaime would have solved it. He’s not going to shoot himself in the foot just to be polite.

The nightmare season is over, have a drink and enjoy all the high stakes basketball going on you don’t have to stress about.

Count me in the camp that believes JP has his guy and things are in place pending the discussion with Prohm. He knew he was going to be unavailable this week through the weekend, and if time was going to be an issue he would have pulled the plug earlier to jump start the 'search'. More jobs / competition will be opening up daily at this point, so yes time is very important if you have to start a search. My guess is that he can afford to wait for next week to have the discussion with Prohm since everything else is already taken care of (new coach, etc). Any, who knows, maybe Prohm will take another job in the meantime....
