Just chatted with our high school coaches here. They have been off the last month No practice and now back and trying to get ready for the tournament. We are the 5th biggest high school in SC. All the coaches here say how tough it is to get back on track. I really doubt JP would make a move during the pandemic but by reading these posts maybe I missed it.

Well let me sum it up for you:

T.J. Otzelberger gets a pass for protocols and restrictions
Steve Prohm doesn't

Worst in the country? Holy hyperbole Batman!
Yeah we might be the worst P5 team this year but that's entirely different than the worst program. We're not even in the same stratosphere of worst programs.

Not the best....but definitely top 5. You can't knock LE's conference championships off the mountaintop unless you do it yourself.

That's fair. I was speaking more to the consistency of that 5-6 years that Hoiberg had us going to the tournament.

Fred screwed us over.

What? He left a great core of players, and while his recruiting suffered a bit at the end due to the constant NBA speculation, he still left a lot of would-be momentum among recruits. Fred did NOT screw us over. Everyone, including Pollard, knew Fred wanted to be in the NBA, nothing was a surprise.

Also Fred said that he would help out Steve however he could and remained an avid supporter of the team. It's not like he ran the program into the ground and and then jumped ship to greener pastures..

Screwing us was a bit over the top.. I meant put us in a tough spot with how late he left.

Freddy is set to make 3.5 million this year to be mediocre at NU. Realistically to get him to come back will take some cash. Although I am pretty sure the donor base would be more than willing to help make it happen.

He also has a $10 million buyout. He's not going anywhere unless Nebraska let's him out of that. Plus he has arguably their best recruiting class ever coming in next year.

I do get a little amusement out of the "I couldn't enjoy the season" posts of that 2019 year.

I don't view that year as a smashing success, and it's obvious now that the issues that team had were a harbinger of things to come. Certainly some unpleasant moments (loss at Iowa, home loss to KSU, February fade, OSU). But they still gave us some good moments that I got some enjoyment from:

  • Stomped Mizzou (eat a ****) in one of the first home games.
  • Good showing in Maui. Introduced THT to the world, and Tyrese to Bill Walton.
  • Big home win against KU
  • Win at Texas Tech
  • Ran Ole Miss out of their own gym
  • Win at KSU
  • Big 12 tournament championship (always fun for ISU fans regardless of the circumstances)

To me, the game that sticks out the most was that TCU home game early in February. We start out well, and it looks like we're going to coast. Then Dixon makes adjustments, and they have their way with us the rest of the game. Seeing Jamie coach circles around Steve (who was unable to stop the bleeding) was certainly a red flag. To me that game was the turning point of the season. The February fade coming on the heels of what was overall a decent first half of the season is where this "didn't meet expectations" feeling came from.

Personally I have a lot of love for 2019. I went to Maui and my kids got pictures with the players on the team. I've got a picture of them next to Haliburton and sitting on the shoulders of some of the guys. I was in KC again for the Tourney win. They were up and down but they were young, likable, and talented and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

What about last year for Prohm? Or 3 years ago? Prohm may have gotten a pass for a bad/mediocre season this year. But this is setting up to be historically bad all around. Why should he get a pass after that?

He's 18-47 in conference play with his own players. Let's not pretend like this is some crazy exception year for Steve Prohm at Iowa State.
