My concern on any rebuild is that the Cubs have not drafted well after the first round. If they want to have this be successful, they need to draft better in the other rounds.

Cubs are about to have no one left. This summer is going to be rough to get through.

selling off your entire roster during one of the most extreme buyers markets in decades is the equivlaent of selling all your stocks when they bottom out. This speaks volumes to how broke the Ricketts are.

If they trade Hendricks too I hate to think what the rotation will look like. They already are in need of filling 1 or 2 rotation spots as it is and trading your ace who has a very friendly contract is definitely waving the white flag. Better be getting a good haul of near MLB ready prospects if you trade him. If the season started today we still have a lot of holes just to field a team right now.

Good Lord. RIcketts chasing hard after that elusive "worst Cubs owner" title.

New Mets owner has some DEEEEEP pockets. He'd be able to resign KB to whatever contract Boras is asking for

IMO, with how poorly KB performed last year and the fact that Boras is his agent, there’s no reason to get into a bidding war with someone over him unless you just want to try and hamstring the other team financially (bid him up but let the other team win the battle so they’re burdened with a higher contract). Let him go. Find someone cheap to replace his less than desirable production.

Too many Cubs fans remeber 2016 and 2017 Bryant. He's been really average since. Hardly worth a Boras contract. Especially with a roster as bad as the Cubs will be for a couple seasons

Hell I would have taken even average the past few seasons out of him because he's not even been that at times let alone the caliber of player that deserves a big contract. His WAR over his career:

2015: 6.0
2016: 7.7
2017: 6.1
2018: 1.9
2019: 3.6
2020: 0.3

Last 3 seasons he has been no where close to the MVP caliber player he was and on top of that he's been on the shelf with injuries or playing hurt for the last 3 years too. I see no scenario where KB is a Cub in 2022, they should have traded him before last season to get the biggest return but just like the front office has done since 2016 they think adding cheap parts to fill in the gaps in the roster is going to result in another run but instead the guys they were counting on to take steps forward after the WS regressed and lost value and now it's salvage time for whatever they can get for them instead of cashing out on a guy like KB or Schwarber when they were coming off a good season instead of a down one. We all pretty much knew when KB lost his service time grievance that the clock was ticking to move him as he either was not going to resign or him and Boras were going to make the Cubs pay by giving him a deal worth more than he should get.

Sort of reclamation project, mostly just a cheap addition who might possibly return to form, but might not.
He doesn't pitch, so that's still a big gap.

It was the perfect move for the Cubs, really. You get him on the cheap, but there's enough name recognition that fans think you are still trying. Most probably recognize the name, and forget about the fact he's been pretty poor outside of the Playoffs lately and will fit nicely in our long line of guys with occasional power but an inability to hit for average.

I don’t hate it. You get a slightly better version of Schwarber for a slightly less cost. Just surprised Ricketts found enough money in the couch cushions to make it happen.

This is a nice addition, assuming it's not being paid for via outbound salary in another move soon (Bryant, Contreras, Hendricks)
