ESPN's Joe Lunardi: ISU's seed line for NCAAs unlikely to change much

If we lose tonight, root for Duke to win the ACC tournament. I don't want the 25% chance to see them on the 2 line.

I don't want to see any 2 seeds, frankly. Tonight's game is big.

The Lunardi hate is so bizarre. He's just some dork that was the first person to really go in-depth with his analysis before the committee releases the bracket. I don't understand how anyone could call him a "blowhard". Seems like he has fun with it and doesn't take it nearly as serious as some people.

It's good for discussion.

Totally agree. It's not like he can accurately predict who the 6th seed in the west will be. He can fairly accurately predict that Iowa State will be a 7th seed and be in the tourney. He does a pretty good job. I don't get the hate for him.

When we don't get our a$$ kissed by a national figure, we'll turn against them very quickly...

I'm being somewhat facetious here, but I think there's some truth to it as well.

For the record, it's one thing to disagree with his projections, but I don't understand the level of vitriol some have against him either.

For the record, I've never had much respect for Lunardi. I don't hate him at all.

Yeah if Zion is healthy, I'm having Duke in my bracket cutting down the nets. Just too much talent.

I had a discussion about this last night. It wouldn’t be fair to all these teams that won their conference bid. I would ask why aren’t all bubble teams play in games.
Yeah I guess it would be. The problem is all the lower seeds are the mid-major autobids, so the play-in games would end up all being between 11 or 12's, probably mostly power 5 schools, which wouldn't seem like a fair shake from their viewpoint, but would be the price for being on the bubble.

And that’s his fault? The “I’m mad at this guy cuz I can’t be wrong at my job” guy needs to lay off of bracket guys.

Haha, ok.

Yeah, just furious.

I can be wrong plenty at my job. I just don't get paid triple figures for it while blathering on based on theory.

I brought up how lame it is to always have him on ESPN but I actually thought it was cool he played last night instead of sitting out per the NBA. Might just be a dude that wants to play some basketball.

I’m not convinced we aren’t already a 6 seed. I know all the talking heads have us as a 7, but all the metrics used by the committee have us in the Top 24 (some in top 20). There are only 15 teams with more quad 1 wins than us, 11 with more quad 1A wins, and 3 with more quad 1A road wins. We do have some quad 2 losses that offset that; however, we don’t know how the committee will use the new NET rankings (other than they stuck pretty closely to it in the Top 16 reveal).

Be happy for Lunardi don’t be a hater. He didn’t bend anyone over and force them to give him that job and pay him a good salary.

Not hating. I want that job.

Just acknowledging there's not much to it.

I am banking UVA again. The computer absolutely adore them, and their offense, which not hyper elite or something, is actually pretty competent for them this year.

This will be their vengeance tour after what happened last year.

I know they want another shot (or two) at Duke, too.

I'm not convinced of anything. Winning tonight would help.

Call me weird, but when the brackets come out, I hope everyone is picking for us to be upset, and for the teams that we play to have some marquee value to them. Our guys tend to respond to those things. But yeah, I don't really want Duke.

I'm still not sure about them in being able to make a deep run. Tony Bennett has had some elite teams yet has only ever made it past the sweet 16 one time (and it took ISU playing pretty poorly in Chicago for it to happen).

I was at that game. I thought it was more UVA playing well.

There have been plenty of programs who "could not make a deep run" until they did. I have a feeling this year might be their year. This is the most balanced team he's had.

Although your statement could be interpreted as "Captain Obvious," it has an element of truth. Recent example: Jay Wright had the "Elite 8 Ceiling" label for a while at Villanova, then broke through (and beyond). Now, the falling-short stretch is almost a footnote.
