If Lard's 6 points 3 rebounds average can't be filled, we have much larger problems. He just hasn't shown any of the promise he showed last year and it feels like he has more issues bubbling up these past couple weeks. Give me Conditt's energy and passion over Lard's.

Not to pick on the freshman, but remember this sequence?

-- George takes the ball out of bounds after a made TTU shot
-- throws a lazy pass at... Marial?
-- somebody from TTU picked it off easily
-- George fouls for an and-one on the ensuing TTU possession

It was a terrible sequence for the young man at a pivotal point of the game where we had a possession to go down 2, and instead we ended up down 7.

I am not trying to pick on him here or say he should not play. Things like this happen, especially with inexperienced freshmen. I was more interested in how he reacted.

How did he handle it?

He came out of the game biting down on a towel, clearly angry and frustrated at himself.

That kind of thing is just going to happen when you play freshman.

Even though we lost, I liked seeing that he cared so much. I hope that awful thirty seconds teaches him something -- time to go full Whiplash on himself. If you do not want to suck, you have to work really hard. Embarrassment and humiliation are powerful tools.

This team has had its problems, but it has not mailed it in. They still care.

I fully agree. And he has been always tweeting after games about how they are still working their butts off to win. Dude cares.

Just ran some averages, in games where he plays 10+ minutes, he averages 4 points and 3 boards and 1.7 blocks. I'll take that plus his passion for ISU over Lard at the moment.

I see this as an all or nothing for ISU. If they really turned the corner I think the draw is favorable and they will ride the Hilton South effect to a title. If not, they are one and done. I just don't see a middle here.

Our fan base needs to stop with this nonsense, we match up just fine with Baylor. Yes, in years past their length was a huge problem but that isn't the case with their current squad.

Not length as much as style. They have some thick guards and forwards who like to mix it up inside. We don't have much length or physicality.

I'm optimistic (yes, if I'm breathing, I'm optimistic, but still...) that the flare up has diffused most of the tensions, and now that the games all have added importance, I think we'll give our best effort, even though you can't always just flip a switch and go back to playing well.

I like that Baylor may not be at full strength. However, I'm concerned about our freshmen playing 3 games in 3 days. They are great athletes, but haven't spent that long in our conditioning program.

I'm confident that if we can get past Baylor, K-State and Kansas, we can win this tourney.

The biggest thing for ISU is when playing teams like Baylor, just can't get in a hole. When you get in a hole, you have to shoot your way back and ISU is too inconsistent shooting the rock.

Keep the game close or keep a slight lead and force them to press a bit and not get in their rhythm.

Based on what I saw Saturday, I'm feeling pretty good about Thursday. My only question - and @ChrisMWilliams, maybe you can shed some light on this - is what's going on with Cam Lard? He's going to be important going forward, at least hopefully.

Watch the handful of minutes he play WV and you'll be glad he's on the bench. The lack of effort was embarrassing.

Not a chance I believe till I see it with this team. Barely losing to a good team in Hilton doesn't do it for me. Average ISU teams can beat great teams in Hilton. I'll be happy if they win just one game in KC, but I don't believe they will.
I reluctantly agree.

If true, then the bigger issue may have been "with whom," not "where" or "when."

The 'when and where' should count for concerns if it's the night before a game.

Great points. By bringing this up, you are not picking on him - actually quite the contrary. As you mentioned, you showed that GC was upset with himself & that he is disappointed that it provided extra momentum to TTU. For as much as the end of the regular season "sucked," I am excited for future with Tyrese & George and believe that they are a solid foundation for when the seniors leave and Wiggs, THT & Lard (whenever they or others) decide their time in an ISU uniform is over.
