Got his schools paid by watering down the conference.

Sure with Rutgers and Maryland but adding Penn St. and Nebby were solid moves. Nobody could've seen the collapse in Lincoln coming but they're bouncing back.

Nebraska appears to be trending in the right way in one sport but we all need to see more. Half the teams you've listed are duds and only a money grab.
IMO, Syracuse still makes more sense than Rutgers for the NY market and that's before going down the rabbit hole of UNC/Duke/Virginia/GT.

Every school you bring in can't be a blueblood. Two out of four is pretty good and money grab or not financially the B1G is at the top of the mountain. He gave the middle finger to ESPN, started BTN, brought college football instant replay, secured great bowl partnerships for the conference. Did a great job, will be interesting who takes over.

And he ended the illusion that college sports are about anything other than money. That's really his legacy. He made that whole thing clear.

That started a long time ago and was a solid group effort. If you think it wouldn't have happened if Delany hadn't been in the picture I think you're kidding yourself.

Didn't say that. I'm giving him credit for being the one to finish it off.

Agree. Swofford and the ACC started the whole conference poaching expansion thing which was strictly about the financial footprint. Delany was just better at the game than everyone else.

^ This. Once a league gets this big you need some cannon fodder like Rutgers to add to the mix of Illinois and Indiana. Nobody wants to watch a league of 5-4 and 4-5 teams.

He was really short sighted though with the obsession of eyeballs on tv sets. That's a moot point now.

Not really. It was the measuring stick when every TV deal he put together was made. There's a reason this last deal was only 6 years. It put the B1G way ahead of the other conferences money wise and the B1G's deal will expire before the other P5 conferences, so in 2022-23 when the media landscape that isn't based on eyeballs on TV sets is more clarified the B1G will be the first to strike.

How was Delany better when he lost out on his crown jewel Notre Dame to the ACC?
