We as a fan base love to rag on the best players.

While I do agree that he was taking good shots, there were at least a few he could have passed it for a “great” shot.

Maybe, but I thought there were a few times in the first half were we passed up an open look to pass it and then the pass was tipped away.

Playing a lot on a bad team does not say much good for you. Most teams that turn their fortunes around do so by turning over much their roster/rotation.

I like Zoran and glad he is a Cyclone -- he is solid bench depth with a high floor, even if his ceiling is limited because he is kind of limited offensively. He is a senior, though, so you kind of know what you are getting compared to a younger player.

I love Lewis -- I think the potential there is still obvious. I still hope/think he morphs into a good bench gunner as a junior and senior. He might never have a full-time starting job or play more than 20-25 minutes per night, but I can see him coming in next year, scoring 12 real fast to put some pressure on a defense, and then tagging back out.
It's true that Zoran has offensive limits due to his poor jump shot. But that guy can play D, guard multiple positions, run the break, break presses and pass. He'll probably get lost in this year's depth but I wish we had had him on some of those Morris-Niang teams that we could only go 6 or 7 deep. He'd have played 20-25 minutes on some of those teams. I wanted to see him last night on Weathers, who kept torching LW off the bounce.

While his jumper isn't good, he does have a nice touch in the lane.

Yeah, having one more reliable, versatile, "do everything" player on those teams that had such short viable rotations (and so much offensive firepower otherwise and, well, some questionable defense at the same time) would have been helpful. Zoran fits that bill.

I remember us taking a few possessions occasionally, with Naz playing "PG" but just pounding the rock, to give Monté a little break when we could. You figure Zoran has the handle to at least try to play offense and occasionally move Monté off the ball.

I just do not know if you really want to take any playing time away from our ample stable of good wing players now, even if we are always playing four of them...

Weiler-Babb
Haliburton
Wigginton
Horton-Tucker
Shayok

...are all really good. I still think there might be some point where we try Jacobson as a stretch big man, which further erodes the extra minutes that might be there.

THT and Haliburton with another year in the weight room will be badasses, look at wiggy and Lewis this year, jacked up a bunch. Another year of BigXII weight room will give them bigXII bodies and then wow. FYI, I know Hailburton had a few slips but I really think hes the best new incoming defender. I cant pour enough man crush on that tall lanky dude, hes a good surprise to me.

I got trashed for saying this a month ago but I'm even more convinced after we have everyone back. This team will be at its best with Lard or Young on the floor. MJ is great but the only advantage he gives you over those two scoring. With so many other capable scorers, its worth sacrificing MJ's offense for what those to bring physically and defensively. The other advantage with this is that you'll have two offensive weapons to come off the bench in MJ and whichever guard ends up sitting. We will need all 3 bigs, it'll be fun to see how Prohm uses them all situationally.

Completely disagree. I think it depends largely on what type of team we are playing. Do you remember how much we struggled with stretch 4s last year? Did you watch Cam try to defend ball screens yesterday? Jacobson does a great job of either switching or hard hedging ball screens, and those plays gave us fits last year. Now granted, he doesn't present the rim security Cam does, but depending on how you are trying to defend a team Jacobson can be more valuable than Cam.

His 3's were ALL good looks.

Looks like we found this year's guy to bag on.
They were all good looks. But to be fair 11 3’s is a lot for a 34% shooter.

Shayok and THT 3’s, and THT step back long 2’s (which he’s cut way down) are probably the least efficient shots ISU takes with any frequency. If I’m defending Iowa St I’m probably living with those.

I agree. None were necessarily bad shots, but when it's not working for you maybe it's best to pass up that shot, drive it, and try to get someone else a shot.

I think this win will be big.
It’s a good lesson when we start hot and then go cold. We can tell the guys in a timeout, look, we’ve blown leads on the road, we’ll be OK.

Definitely something they can draw upon down the road. I think the Drake win helped them to win this one to an extent because they learned that b

Weathers would have blown by Talley as well, Wigg is quicker than Talley.

THT will be in the NBA. Where have you been?

Seriously though, you are right.

"Chucker" wasn't derived from a single game. Having more options will help. We are still in an adjustment period.

Agree. It will be interesting to see how the shot chart does change. Wiggi, of course, will get his. I could see Shayok and THT shots going down, and hopefully Halliburton and NWB attempts going up.

Maybe but I felt like last year Wiggy struggled to stop drives at times. And Zoran gets LOW on D and has good technique. Plus, with his size, he can contest the shot at the end of a drive if he's close. Haven't seen him enough this year to know but I would've liked to see it.

these threads are always great the next day.

this might be one of the more unique teams/seasons in the past 30+ years.

all of this talent, yet its basically the preseason in terms of team chemistry/experience given all the injuries/suspensions etc.

we got a great road win, we have a ton of talent, I don't get all negativity.

when babb plays aggressively like that, I like our chances against almost anybody.

Jake, THT, solo, etc -all these guys will play big roles for us in future games!

A young ISU went on the road, for its first conference game and came out with a victory. Was it closer than it should have been, yep, sure was. But we got the win.

Couple of things that I didn't like, we are still ducking under the screen at the top of the key on defense. The outside shooters for OSU were lighting it up from there. We need to do a better job identifying the shooters, and do not allow them a straight on 3 point attempt. They had kids that wanted to shoot, not drive the ball, we need to learn to slide them off their spot.

2nd thing, we are still shooting a three at times way to early, we had a couple of breaks and still tried for a three, take the ball to the rack, especially when you are struggling from behind the arch.
Overall a good win for a young team, we played defense well at times, moved the ball well at times, but we are inconsistent at both. By the end of the year, this team can be a beast if they continue to improve.

I wish he would play aggressive more consistently. Like you said, it makes the team so much better. Too many times he is content to be passive.

"Aggressive" vs. under control/make the right play is the finest line in basketball.
