How many times over the last two coaches have we lost games because we struggled hitting the 3 point shot? More than I care to count, no one is saying do not shoot the ball, but a great scorer knows when his shot is off for the night, and then adjusts his game. Both Wigginton and Shayok can do more than hit 3s, they are great at taking it to the hoop, drawing contact and finishing. They are both good free throw shooters, but neither has learned to adjust when their shot is not falling, they just keep shooting them.

First bold:
Last night we had a game where we struggled to hit the 3 point shot. We won, FYI.

Second bold:
Both Shayok and Wigginton did other things than shoot threes last night. Wigginton shot 11 free throws, Shayok 6. Shayok was also 1-6 from two, so he pretty clearly wasn't making any shots, not just threes. They correctly didn't stop taking open threes, but their games weren't entirely threes. I'd call that adjustment. (Also they combined for 5 assists, 14 rebounds, and 2 steals.)

We did one of the best jobs I’ve ever seen of going over on the high ball screens, especially Lindell. Without looking at the stats I would say offensive rebounding was even for both teams and neither team got that many. Definitely less than 10 for each team.
Both teams had 11 for the game, and we were out rebounded by 4 on the defensive end. ISU shot 36.4% for the game OSU 37.9%. ISU had 2 fewer turnovers and 2 more blocks. It was a win, on the road against a team that dropped to 6-7 for the season, by 6 points. Lets not start to think we are final four team just yet. We will find out more Saturday. Go Clones.

But that is the thing, last night we were 10-30 from 3 for 33.3%, not good at all, but for the season we are only hitting 34.9%. So we were maybe one to two shots below our season average.
Shayok is hitting .338% from 3, Wigginton is at .235%, but he has been hurt, Tucker is at .286% for the season. As a team ISU ranks 135th in nation in 3 point shooting. Hell Iowa is ranked at 116 and their guards suck.
Maybe its time to take it to the basket and get fouled a little more often.

You’re still going on about Shayok?
He took good shots. He missed more than anyone would like, but that doesn’t equate to being selfish, particularly given his track record.

Nearly everyone on the team could play smarter on offense. Given what we’ve seen the past couple years, maybe the improvement doesn’t happen, but it’s only Game 2 together.

Agree. You have to keep shooting open 3 pointers. Glad Wigg did that, hitting the last 3 could be what he needs to get back to last year's shooting form. Shayok will bounce back vs KU.

Holy crap, 53 pages. Don't think I have a need to browse through that. I'll just leave it at, what happened at the game was about what I thought would happen. While we were in striking distance at the end, it just didn't feel like there was a real chance to somehow take it from you. It was good to see Wigginton get back out there. He's fun to watch, even when hobbled a bit.

We're off to OU tomorrow. This is not going to be pretty.

Now go beat the Jayhawks. Here's hoping that Halliburton will have a similarly blistering game like he had against us.

The type of posts from opposing fans I can appreciate.
