It still does no good to society to put the mother of 4 children into jail for a "crime" with no victims.
I disagree strongly. It does plenty of good to the community at large to put this lady through the judicial process, and, if found guilty, punish her accordingly. Examples:
1. A deterrent to others: If every person who commits statutory rape or lude offenses with a minor spent, say, a minimum of 6 months in jail (and not a fluffy jail), you can see that there would be more deterrents to doing that activity by those tempted to do so. We can't know how much of a deterrent, but even if it's only a little, it's worth it.
2. The offender will be more likely to think twice, once released, before doing it again if time #1 lead to a horrible experience.
3. One of government's valid, God-given roles is to punish evil. When it does so, right and good order is upheld. There are so many dumb things government does, let's applaud what they get right.
4. A criminal record prevents this lady, if guilty, from getting future jobs that involve working with children. If guilty, she should also be placed on the sex offender registry and endure those consequences as well.
5. It demonstrates to the kids of the school (including the minor involved) in a very strong way, that what happened was not OK, and this will help them to develop a stronger sense of right and wrong as they walk toward adulthood.
I could go on . . .
