One thing about the Hyvee Classic that annoyed me last year. The amount of Iowa/UNI fans that stayed for the Drake/ISU game that were openly cheering for Drake. The fans in our section were nearly unbearable.

It will be interesting to see if it's the same way this year since ISU plays the later game again.
I would do the exact same. I can't blame somebody for doing what I would do.

I've only been once (in 2014, I think). UNI played Iowa and Drake played ISU. I openly cheered for UNI and Drake that day because I want all the MVC teams to do well in non-conference play (and I will be cheering for Drake to beat Iowa this weekend for those same reasons and because Fran is a tool). Now, once MVC play starts, all bets are off and D+ can go winless for all I care.

Welcome to being the state’s marquee program. Personally I’ve got better things to do than watch programs like Drake and Iowa, but I can see why they’d want to stay for our game. It’s similar to how I root against KU.

He’ll go 6/10 this weekend, not kidding.
ISU always seems to help slumping shooters.

No doubt...UNI will shoot 75% as a team from 3 but...

Last five games from 3 pt land

Pickford 13%
McCloud 32%

and Carlson has been ice cold with the exception of UT Arlington. It will be interesting to see if we implement some zone to pack in the lane. I don't like the idea of Brase defending Carlson or Koch

I think this is a coaching mis match. Jacobsen has been established. You know what you get from him and his teams. This is also a talented UNI team. I have watch them play and they will play to their strength and make ISU slow it down. Prohm was supposed to bring a defensive mindset, but so far has shown his teams can execute his offensive system down the stretch, when trying to slow it down. Instead they have continued to play a faster game. Something UNI won't do.
ISU has yet to play anyone of note. Iowa is a bad basketball team and they had it close through out. UNI is fundamentally sound and efficient.
UNI controls every part of this game and wins it by 7-9 points.
I'm currently convinced that those taking digs at Prohm's coaching ability don't know much about the sport of basketball.

Hey @UNIPantherFan , does UNI do much with full court pressure or trapping at half court? That was something ISU struggled with a little bit in the second half against Iowa.

I doubt the game will be that high scoring. UNI hasn't scored over 82 points in a game all year and that includes wins over Alcorn State, Chicago State, Wartburg and Dubuque. I don't see them scoring their season high against ISU. Also, UNI has only allowed over 68 points once and that was the season opener on the road against North Carolina (they allowed 86 that night).

UNI plays at a pace that ranks 350 out of 351 D1 teams (average of 63 possessions per game - Virginia is the only team with a slower pace, averaging 60 possessions per game). If the game ends with a score in the 80s or upper 70s I would put my money on ISU winning.
I expect this game to be in the 70's a mix of iSu and UNI with neither team really controlling tempo. iSu will still shoot a lot of threes

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little surprised with the responses so far with so many people picking UNI. I honestly believe the game will come down to the wire with the final margin being 5 points or less either way. Really surprised by those of you picking UNI by double digits as I just don't see that happening with our style of play.

UNI has beaten four Top 100 RPI/KenPom teams so far and here are the margins of victory:
UT-Arlington (RPI 67/KenPom 90) - won at home by 4
SMU (RPI 72/KenPom 23) - won on neutral court by 3
NC State (RPI 80/KenPom 75) - won on neutral court by 4
UNLV (RPI 98/KenPom 73) - won in OT at home by 9

ISU is 40 in RPI/63 in KenPom (as of this morning) - comparable to some of these teams. UNI could certainly win, but I don't see them running away with it.

Don't be too surprised. This is what respect looks like and your program has earned it.

Wow with all the Debbie Downers.

I don't think it can be established whether we are good or not, but a 7 game win streak ought to count for something. UNI is typically good at patient offense that picks apart defenses that lose focus (our current biggest weakness), so I can see where it's a scary game at this point. However, I love our level of talent, and I know Coach Prohm will continue to get the guys to improve. Overall though, it should be a pretty good indicator of where we're at as a team, and what we need to work on.

Well, that post was a mess. I struggled to get how exactly the poster was critiquing Prohm, other than he was unhappy. Where did the “Prohm is supposed to bring a defensive mindset” come from? I guess he’s not irresponsible towards it like the previous staff.

On paper it's not a great match up for us. UNI likes to force things into a half court game and that's where we struggle offensively. Keys to a win for us:

1. Create turnovers so we can run
2. At least hold our own on the boards
3. Take (and make) a lot of free throws. We have to dominate this stat category.
4. Defend the 3 better than we have this year

This will be a great test for our young team. We will definitely get a feel for the maturity level of the guys because UNI will frustrate the heck out them with their style of play. I honestly have no feel whatsoever as to who will win this one. If I had to guess, I'd say UNI in a really close one. Game will likely be played in the 60s or low 70s.

So, with so many people picking UNI by a significant margin, there won't be a meltdown in the game thread if we lose? Refreshing.
Weak.

There are thousands of CF users and only a handful of those have chimed in that they expect UNI to win. Take a look at the mailbag thread. Just as many have high expectations or are at least uncertain for the year.

Additionally, the real meltdown is of CF responding to valid criticism of poor play. I expect UNI to win because we’re not good at many things. I believe in the program enough to view that as meriting in-game and in-season criticism. Respect the program enough and be mature enough to handle that.

Weak? That's hilarious. I'm saying that a lot of the regulars seem to have a good grasp that we will for sure lose, so, to me, there shouldn't be much of a meltdown.

Also, you aren't seriously saying that most of the perceived meltdown is simply well-reasoned criticisms, right? A guy could hit a 35 foot contested 3 at the buzzer and people on here would say we needed to guard him tighter.

Hyperbole, check. Illogical, check. Your meltdown started early.

UNI will trap off a ball screen on the sideline occasionally but other than that no. You won't see any full court pressure unless Iowa State is up in the closing minutes and nothing as far as a designed trap in the half court.

Same as always, pack it in, don't foul, make the other team shoot jump shots.
