SIAP....Just an fyi, and since this is a 2018 recruiting thread, I'll just put this here: Bob'sBasketballblog has an interview on twitter with Zion Griffin. Really asks him some specific questions about his recruitment. Sorry can't link,....and I can't make out the audio w/ the responses from Zion. Would really like to hear his answers. Perhaps someone else has a clearer access to this if you're interested in checking it out.

ESPN is strange, because there is definitely a niche market for people who follow recruiting closely. Seems like they're missing out on a revenue opportunity by basically giving up on recruiting coverage

Way up there
Class balance in crucial but not in the # of schollies, you want to balanced position/role wise. After his first season here Prohm lost his entire front court, then last year he lost his entire back court. Going forward, it looks like he's protected the program from going through that kind of thing barring guys blowing up and leaving early. That's what I love about these last two classes.

I have been straining to listen to this. A couple of Nuggets that I have been able to discern (it is really hard to hear):

- Zion is very competitive in everything
- It was Important that ISU offered early
- Prohm was the first to reach out to him in his recruiting
- Prohm had point for Zion's recruitment when other schools used assistants
- Prohm cared about how Zion was doing, not just about how he was playing (basketball)
- Puts academics before basketball - "It is called a student athlete for a reason"
- Wanted to go where there was a great fan base, moving away from home it is important to have support
- The way fans looked at Zion on visits was "like the best thing ever"
- Talked about difference between HS and AAU in terms of showcasing skillset. He is a center in HS because he knew it was best for the team ans really wanted to buy in to whatever coach is telling him to do because he puts his team over himself in terms of showcasing skills.
- Junior year was first year of varsity basketball
- Cavs are fav. NBA team

I stopped listening about 20 minutes in...

EDIT: I listened to more...
- Fav. Player is Lebron
- Tries to emulate KD
- Watches NBA preseason for entertainment and NBA postseason to learn
- When asked who would win nat'l Championship, picked ISU. When asked for a team other than ISU, picked Duke.
- Looking forward to talent and competition most about Big 12
- His mindset going into college ball - He wants to fit into the system however coach needs him, be a team player, and get teammates involved.

He says all the right things, and sounds like a smart kid. I'm excited for his ceiling. I think he will be willing to get to the facilities early and leave late to get better.

Regarding THT tomorrow there have actually been some pretty strong rumors that THT won't sign in the early period, as Deon Thomas (Illinois/Simeon grad) continues to try to iron out issues with the folks at Mac Irvin.

By tomorrow night we’ll know if he’s coming to ISU or not, regardless.

If he’s all in he’ll sign and it will have just been a stupid rumor.

If he doesn’t sign, then he probably isn’t coming IMO.

Why commit unless you are ready to sign?

I agree, he could have easily postponed his commitment 2 weeks ago if he was still undecided and wait till the late signing period to "iron out" any issues. Comments from him and his mom since have me believing it was always ISU.

As with all recruits until the signature is in things can change but no reason to doubt that it will as of right now.

I can confirm that this is false.

Reason being he backed himself into a corner with his commitment by making it an event. I can confirm that into the early afternoon of his commitment day that Deon Thomas was still hard at work on his behalf with Illinois coaches/Mac Irvin to try to get him to Illinois. Again, this is all for naught if he signs tomorrow with us, but there are many on the Illinois Prep Circuit at this point that believe he will not sign tomorrow. It very well could be false though, just providing the info.
