SIAP....Just an fyi, and since this is a 2018 recruiting thread, I'll just put this here: Bob'sBasketballblog has an interview on twitter with Zion Griffin. Really asks him some specific questions about his recruitment. Sorry can't link,....and I can't make out the audio w/ the responses from Zion. Would really like to hear his answers. Perhaps someone else has a clearer access to this if you're interested in checking it out.
I have been straining to listen to this. A couple of Nuggets that I have been able to discern (it is really hard to hear):
- Zion is very competitive in everything
- It was Important that ISU offered early
- Prohm was the first to reach out to him in his recruiting
- Prohm had point for Zion's recruitment when other schools used assistants
- Prohm cared about how Zion was doing, not just about how he was playing (basketball)
- Puts academics before basketball - "It is called a student athlete for a reason"
- Wanted to go where there was a great fan base, moving away from home it is important to have support
- The way fans looked at Zion on visits was "like the best thing ever"
- Talked about difference between HS and AAU in terms of showcasing skillset. He is a center in HS because he knew it was best for the team ans really wanted to buy in to whatever coach is telling him to do because he puts his team over himself in terms of showcasing skills.
- Junior year was first year of varsity basketball
- Cavs are fav. NBA team
I stopped listening about 20 minutes in...
EDIT: I listened to more...
- Fav. Player is Lebron
- Tries to emulate KD
- Watches NBA preseason for entertainment and NBA postseason to learn
- When asked who would win nat'l Championship, picked ISU. When asked for a team other than ISU, picked Duke.
- Looking forward to talent and competition most about Big 12
- His mindset going into college ball - He wants to fit into the system however coach needs him, be a team player, and get teammates involved.
He says all the right things, and sounds like a smart kid. I'm excited for his ceiling. I think he will be willing to get to the facilities early and leave late to get better.
