The players want UAB, so I want UAB. If it helps them close that chapter and is cathartic in any way then I want it for them.

The narrative thing to it is making a statement that we're a different team this time around.

I still don't think either team is very interesting to play, but UAB at least comes with a story to it.

Honestly, most people aren't going to really care. It's just a redemption thing for some players. If we were between two seeds, a win over Illinois would do more for our case than over UAB even if they upset us last year. UAB could go 20-6 this year and Illinois could go 19-14 and the Illinois game would still look better.

Illinois will at least play enough teams with decent RPI throughout the season to make playing them worthwhile. UAB isn't likely to. But if the boys want another crack at Brown and Coakley, you can't blame them one bit.

If we are worried about seeding based on Illinois/UAB we've sorely underperformed.

Not really. Unless we are a #1 seed or solid #2 or something, every game is taken into account. If you don't think so then you don't know much about the process. I hope for the players' sake they get redemption by playing UAB but Illinois game looks better no matter what since they're in the B1G

Exactly. If we're not a 1 or solid 2 we've underperformed. That would put us in top 8 nationally. I understand the process. You think Kansas or Kentucky or duke get dinged by beating a CUSA team in November when they are 28-3 in February?

We shouldn't become cocky and assume we're going to be a 1 or 2 seed. Yes, we're a very good team but at the end of the day - we have a lot of games to play. Definitely possible though, but - most of the season is still left. But even so, pretend you were a #1 seed and in contention for basically getting home court advantage, these things are still taken into account for who gets which good geographic seedings. It could literally come down to something like "Well, Kentucky beat 5 P5 teams in the non conference, but ISU only beat 4" and they can make the decision on that alone.

Anyway, UAB actually scares me more than Illinois does. UAB's length which gave us problems last year seems to be in full effect

I'm aware that people won't care more than a few minutes, but it's more interesting for a bit.
Illinois is probably not going 19-14 with the start they're off to. Neither one is going to be an RPI booster.

Illinois gets three players back tonight. The will be much better than when Chattanooga beat them. Nunn was all conf last year.

Illinois lost to Chattanooga and almost lost to Chicago state. They are pretty bad. UAB is a likely tourney team. I think u a would be better for our rpi.

UAB looks good - Illinois is OK - not bad, not good either. Don't underestimate B1G bias even against mediocre teams.

After watching the first half of the UAB/Illinois game now I know how OU fans feel about that Texas loss in football.

Hines, Peterson, CW, and RG are going to be devastated if things don't turn around in a hurry...we won't be able to 'exact revenge' for a season ending loss with a November win...which would be about the equivalent of 'an eye for a fingernail' for payback.
