Care to elaborate as to why they would/should ignore those wins?
Anything that gets the playoffs to 8 teams is a good thing so I am fully on board the "13-0 Power 5 team left out" train. Take one for the team Hawks.
Why? How does expanding the playoff make it less of a beauty contest, or address unbalances schedules and leagues across the landscape?
Question for Hawk Fans. I know you think you are deserving..and I can see that argument.
BUT....if you take a non-biased look at the teams in the top 10, who do you think Iowa would have a decent shot of beating?
1. Clemson | 6. Baylor |
2. LSU | 7. Michigan State |
3. Ohio State | 8. TCU |
4. Alabama | 9. Iowa |
5. Notre Dame | 10. Florida |
Good question. All four on the right side of your table. Baylor wouldn't score near their average against our D, especially with their QB out. If he proves decent I will reevaluate, but right now you have to expect a serious dropoff from them. MSU is not nearly as good as the last couple years and Iowa matches up with them very well. TCU does not impress me this year. They were nearly beaten by Minnesota who is God-awful. So I'd say we have a good chance to win. Florida, similar to Baylor, has lost their QB. That would be a really good game with great defense on both sides.
One team not in your table that I don't think Iowa could beat is Oklahoma. It doesn't matter, but since you effectively asked about an objective power ranking, my best effort has Iowa #7.
Don't have a beef with TCU being where they are? They are getting screwed! They were far and away at least the #2 team last year
1) That's your opinion.
2) Last year doesn't matter. At least it shouldn't.
Iowa's most impressive game was blowing out NW even though Northwestern is labeled a Superbowl game annually. There's a mythos of Fitz basing his season on the Iowa game and a lifetime of hatred...seriously.
Not a mythos. It's fact. He talks about it himself and all NU players report the same. He thinks Iowa intentionally broke his leg to cost his chance to play in the Rose Bowl.
7-1 with a strength of schedule of 14. Only loss to the #1 team on the road by 2..
It's all politics.
In the rain, no less.
Exactly. With no pre-defined path to the championship, it's still a popularity contest. No different than the pre-BCS days. It's just now there's a team of individuals deciding on four teams. At least those chose four get to play it out.
