I also like the idea of adding another land grant school to the league.

Yea, I mean those are all nice things and in a different, less profits-driven college sporting landscape I can see some of that being a compelling case. Of course in that kind of landscape we'd still be in a league with Nebraska, Mizzou, and Colorado so this discussion would make even less sense. Who knows, maybe down the road there will be enough NCAA lawsuits and the sports content bubble will bust just enough that this overly-sprawling conferences start to break up and we revert back to leagues that make more geographic sense. That's when you start seeing the Colorado State's of the world getting invites to more prestigious conferences.

Just because they have the money to build an expensive (but tiny, only 36k seats) stadium doesnt mean they'll generate money for us. Its not like we share donor money. People in colorado didnt really care about the more prominent CU team, CU wasnt much of a loss when they left. Not sure how CSU is going to benefit the conference.
If you read the article, it's 41,000. And it's being built with future expansion in mind. It wasn't that long ago ISU had an official capacity of 43,000.

Agree, CU isn't missed and there is no flippin way that CSU will exceed CU in TV network value to the B12 over the long term.

Why are people even talking about stadiums? They don't matter. I would take LSU and arky in the Big 12 even if they played on junior high football fields. At the same time, I wouldn't take CSU if they played in cowboy stadium.

I see a bunch of our fans talking about stadiums in a few different threads. I don't get it. They don't matter.

Neither does your opinion.

Geographically, CSU makes more sense than most other universities talked about around here. The Big 12 schools cannot really afford to be picky, should it come down to having to add someone. It may well be that we'd have to consider which university would have the most potential to grow into being a Power 5 school.

Was Baylor deserving of being included in the Big 12 at the time this league was forming in the mid-90s? IMO, not really. Not one of their bigger programs was in good shape whatsoever and they were the joke of the new-born league. Look at them now. League titles and a Heisman winner in football, multiple Sweet 16 and better in men's basketball, and multiple national championships in women's basketball. They're winning and they're growing their brand.

Colorado State seems to be committed to improving its brand and investing in its programs. If the Big 12 is looking to grow, CSU needs to be one of the teams seriously considered. Am I saying it's the absolute best option? Not necessarily. Is there a better fit out there (that would even consider such a move)? Not necessarily. They are not CU and they shouldn't be compared to CU. They are poised to break through to the next level. All they need is an opportunity.

Pros: Fort Collins would be a great road trip AND you can throw all your trash out the window while driving through Nebby. I kid I kid. (kind of). They are building a new football stadium and if CU does not get its act together they could easily become the premier sports program in the state. It might get us out of cellar in FB standings.

Cons: Nobody in Colorado cares about college sports and it is a small TV market. Not going to happen.

If you don't believe facilities matter, there's nothing anyone can write here that would make sense to you. How many million is ISU currently spending on JTS? Whew, what a waste. :twitcy:

The Coloradoan will take a look Sunday at what kind of work will be done during the early stages of construction. The stadium, designed to seat 36,000 fans with total capacity of 40,085, will be built on the southwest side of Colorado State University's main campus, between Lake and Pitkin Streets along the west side of a reconfigured Whitcomb Street.

They improve the individual school's recruiting, but ISU could plop down a 1 billion dollar stadium and it wouldnt make us any more attractive to another conference.

That's an old article and it is no longer correct. They considered building a 36,000 seat stadium to save money if they couldn't raise 50% of the funds through private donations. But then the board of governors decided to go along with the original plan no matter what, which will be a 41,000 seat facility.

That article is from just a couple months ago. Even the official stadium site lists 'capacity' as about 40k, including SRO tickets.

That's a poorly written explanation for sure.

Exactly. Anyone who can't see this, doesn't understand the current landscape of college sports.

My old high school is throwing down new fake turf today. It's a beauty of a stadium.

Let's give them the consideration they deserve
Allen HS in Texas put in a 60mil stadium a few years ago. Should we consider them?

My HS put a few million dollar indoor practice facility in a couple years ago. Should the Big 12 look at them? We also averaged 12k attendance last year.
