Little known up and coming coach Ted Roiberg. I've heard good things, plus it is rumored he once traveled on tour with the Doobie Brothers

But that would be a huge departure from where we are today - that dude wears a tie!

Frick. Twocoach is in this thread? Didn't know that.. my bad.
In his defense he did question the people on here that think Doc Sadler should be considered. If he is even a consideration ISU athletics should be boycotted.

People putting Archie Miller or Chris Mack outside the realm of possibility because of Florida underestimate the draw of walking into a roster this good, even for one year. They may not be likely, but I think they would at least listen.

I don't agree with letting style of play having a heavy influence on the hire. Winning is exciting and losing sucks. Personally I find ole defense and 4th grade girl rebounding to be terribly painful to watch, nearly as bad as watching UNI on offense.

I'm on the Horny/TJ bandwagon. Am I nuts to think that's a decent possibility?

Was just told he would consider it, but the one thing he does not like about college hoops is the recruiting and the cesspool it has become. Then again you got one of the best recruiters in the country currently on staff so you may not need to get too dirty.

If ISU does come after him, not sure if he would not use it as leverage to try and get a better deal from the Suns, but if they were to balk, then ya never know.

The guy I spoke to will give me a shout if Jeff gets the call from ISU as of now no preliminary feelers.

I think people are grossly overestimating the job. Hoiberg alone made the program relevant. HE made Iowa State a top 15-20 program in the nation. Without Fred I don't see it the same way to be honest. YES, it is one hell of a team coming back next year. But without Fred (going forward) are we are not the same brand. Fred's presence and hyper-ascent in the media's eyes was all on him. It was a once in a lifetime story that we were very fortunate to witness. He's a golden child. Played at Ames High, ISU and the league for 10 years. Good looking. Unbelievable presence. A family that greeting card companies fawn over. Pollard can't replicate that. Hornachek is the closest thing and it pales in comparison. Fred created a narrative about ISU basketball, taking "cast-offs" and turning them into high scoring winners.

This is no simple changing of the guard. It's the end of something that we all dreamed would be a Coach K type situation. Sustained success because the leader was big enough to make it happen. Those type of guys are few and far between. If Fred leaves it won't ever be the same. That's not to say ISU can't win, can't compete in the Big 12 or nationally. But it won't be the same.

So if it's TJ or whoever, people have to give it a chance. This is like being the next Bears coach after Ditka leaves. There is no right answer. How could there be. It's not Fred. There are talented basketball coaches out there. I trust Pollard knows what he's got on his hands. He knows the fever-pitch of fans that tasted being among the elite, talked about basketball programs in the country. He was smart enough to see what Fred could be and do for Iowa State. That was no small risk.

I'm sad right now. But I'm not discouraged. I'm an Iowa State fan.

Don't understand y he (hornacek) wouldn't talk to us. If, for no other reason, to get leverage from the Suns for a better deal. Popcorn tastes sooo good btw.

That's really all that matters, I'll take winning 2-0 over losing 95-93

I doubt the returning roster would which is why it would be a huge negative to bring in a new HC who doesn't play uptempo. Also, the ISU program has established a successful brand for uptempo play and it would be foolish to deviate from that with guys like TF, B.Drew, Archie Miller and some others without a history of uptempo play on their resumes. I want to see a new HC take the returning roster and have them average 90 ppg next season with the 30 second clock. If they do, they will win the B12 or come close to doing so. Brad Underwood may the best candidate to do just that.

For better or worse, "just going with TJ" will make it appear that Pollard conducted this search with the fighting spirit of a Frenchman.

Absolutely. The optics of this may be even more important than who he ultimately hires.

Someone inquired on Fran Fraschilla for us.

@MrKurimski: @franfraschilla any chance you come coach Iowa State if The Mayor leaves?

Fran's response.

@franfraschilla: Have to check with @NazzyJLong first!

Which is why the Hornacek rumor was floated by Pollard.

I'll throw a new name out here...Greg Gard, Associate Head Coach from Wisconsin.

Obviously, a very similar resume and profile to Dwayne Stephens from Michigan State. He's had a chance to work next to a future Hall of Famer in Bo Ryan and has been an integral part of a program that evolved from one respected regionally in the Midwest to an elite national program (IMO). Plus, he would likely keep our Wisconsin recruiting pipeline, such as it is, intact. I think we could do a lot worse than Gard.
