Road Rage

A guy I used to work with said he once threw what was the equivalent of a big gulp through another cars open window once. His lane was ending in a concrete barrier and the car next to him would not let him over. Speeding up or slowing down so he was stuck in the lane.

I will admit that I've done that to people before. When there is a long line of cars in the right lane and there are signs that the left lane ends I will not let anyone over that cruises along in the empty left lane to get ahead in the line. That BS is what causes a lot of my road rage.

...got into a flipping off match with someone trying to pass me unsafely on a 25 MPH zone that's only one lane yesterday. They were probably doing 35-40, in a place where 30 is not safe due to parked cars/narrow roadway, hence the 25 MPH signs.

Otherwise I regularly flip people off who run stop signs on the crosswalk that I'm trying to cross on my runs. If you're too stupid to detach yourself from your phone for long enough to see things like stop signs/crosswalks/pedestrians, you deserve much worse than someone flipping you off.

That seems like assault with deadly weapon.

I think that was brought up but since I was under 18, my father had to press the charges. He didn't really think it was worth fighting for that, just get her to pay for the truck and my hospital bill (we went just in case). The whole thing in court took about an hour and a half. She chose not to speak. The jury took maybe 10min max.

A few times when I've been in that situation, in really long lines, a couple of semi drivers teamed up and blocked the empty lane.

My son learned a coping behavior that he related to me after he had several road rage incidences. He now drives like he is playing a computer simulation/game and the other drivers are "actually" hazards to avoid. He says since taking the human element out of it, he sees it as entertaining to avoid all the hazards. It works for him.

Of the three road rage incidents that left an impression on me two were in Ames (stupid testosterone)! The last was a Minnesotan on I-35 North of the Twin Cites. Irrate that I wasn't going over 80 in the left lane and he waited at several overpasses and would pull in behind me shouting and honking. It seems he had a an added problem with my WI plates.

Heading west on the Eisenhower near downtown Chicago. Not being particularly familiar with this road I ended up in the wrong lane and had to cut off a lady in a Honda Odyssey. Looked in my rear view and got the double finger salute even though she had a full van of kids. Figure this occurs quite frequently in Chicago.

Its uncommon if I go an entire day without using my horn at least once. I love honking and abuse my horn to the fullest. Of course everybody else does too in Chicago.

I much prefer driving in Chicago to Iowa. In Chicago, people drive with purpose. They may be annoying about it, but most everyone's intent is to get to their destination and they are relatively aware of their surroundings. In Iowa, too many people are picking their nose, playing with their phone, etc with no clue what's going on around them.

I've had a bottle of soda thrown at my car before, but that was in Council Bluffs, somewhat expected.

But at least the traffic is moving...

In my short commute to work on a small residential street I would always see "blue Durango guy" traveling the opposite direction in the mornings. There is always a van parked on the side of the street on my side. There was a period of a couple months that he and I would meet at the parked van every morning. He decided he shouldn't have to slow down if I got the the van first so he would start honking a few houses early. I would flip him off for being a *******. Every damn day I had to flip off stupid blue Durango guy. Now I don't see him anymore. I miss flipping him off.

Driving after a pretty bad snowstorm on Hwy 30 by the Dayton exit. only one lane is plowed, the other is pretty much packed ice. I'm going fairly slow, but appropriate for the conditions. Car loaded with 6 college age kids gets on my ***. They sit there for probably 15 seconds, get ******, yank it around me, give me the evil eye on the way by. As they try to re-enter the plowed lane, spin out and find their way into the ditch. They were close enough I could see the look of terror on their faces......very satisfying

I was traveling Eastbound on I-80 in eastern Iowa about 20 years ago in my small pickup. I started passing a huge RV with an even bigger trailer. When I got just about even with the front of his trailer he decides he is going to come on over into the left lane with me. I layed on the horn and ended up on that narrow bumpy assed left shoulder. By then the adrenaline is pumping so I completed the pass on the narrow shoulder. As I went by him on the shoulder he is screaming at me and flipping me off. I think he forgot entirely about his trailer and thought I passed him on the shoulder for no reason. What an idiot.

Most of the road rage I have seen is against bikers on public streets. Sorry you had to slow down your big bubba truck on a 25 mph road while I am riding my bike.

I'd guess that at least 50% of road rage incidents could be solved by everyone using the passing lane as a passing lane. Yes, regardless of your speed, move the **** over when you're done passing.

When I lived in Kansas City I had to drive Ward Parkway from the Plaza to down near 75th St every day. It is three lanes but not very wide. Most of it has square curbs on the side of the road. I was driving in the right lane and the car next to me kept floating into my lane...our mirrors were almost touching, and there was nowhere on the right for me to go. So I knocked on his passenger window. With my fist. Three times. BOOM BOOM BOOM!

He sped up and cut me off so I kept following him. He pulled into a gas station, I pulled in behind him. He got out. I got out, then he scrambled back to his car and took off. I was only a block from work so I let it go.

Oh for sure. I don't think that was the case here. He saw his lane was ending and tried to get over. It was outside of philly, and I don't think he was trying to pass a bunch of people.

One note about that. It is actually better for traffic flow if both lanes are used and the cars "zipper" at the right time versus backing up into a single lane for miles. Unfortunately, if everyone is stacked up and you do this it looks like you are the jerk trying to take advantage when it is actually better for everyone...
